WARNING RANT INCOMING: I just do not get what is classified as rock anymore in this day and age. I have seen so many great artists this year get snubbed of awards due to it now becoming a popularity contest instead of being musically creative and making masterpieces instead of catchy pop-ish music. I am not knocking the Pop genre but please know there is a difference between it and rock. It is true that Paramore is pop rock and thus a sub genre of rock but it does not represent the rock genre as a whole. As for Lorde........lets just not go there as I have some choice words that would probably do more harm than good. I just feel that the mainstream music industry needs to stop trying to water the rock genre down to make it suitable for all audiences. Rock was at one point the voice for the voiceless, the rebel's shout, the misfits' theme song to life. Now it is being painted as a happy go lucky hipster genre that is full of wimps and zero creativity( see the new "punk rock"). There are few bands that match the creativity of Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Metallica, FFDP, Soundgarden, and Seether among others. I just pray that soon rock fans will unite and see the light and bring the true artists back to the light and send these wannabe rockers back to their hipster homes. RANT OVER
