http://kotaku.com/five-months-in-hardcore-destiny-players-are-hitting-a-1684813586
This is not a bash. It comes from someone who, like many of us, really likes Destiny but is reaching a point of burn-out. The things that popped out to me are the lack of carrots and poor communication from Bungie.
If you trawl the forums, you'll find many threads dedicated to each point made, but this is a handy summation of the frustration hardcore Destiny players are, and have been, facing of late.
I'm no hater, and like Kirk, the article's author, I know there's an unbelievable game inside Destiny. I'm looking forward to HoW, but until then, it'll just have to be a strike now and again.
Edit 1: You guys all rock. It's been a very clear-headed conversation in here so far, aside from some weak trolls. And thanks for the bumps! I think it's good to read what a lot of us have been thinking.
Edit 2: I'm pretty sure the forum ninjas have buried any Kotaku-related posts so they don't trend. That's their prerogative, and somewhat understandable despite the normal levels of vitriol you can generally find on these forums.
Feel free to bump if you think others should read it but, after over twenty-four hours of pretty constant replies from you crazy, magnificent bastards, it's fair to say that we don't need an article to spur healthy discussion about one of our favorite games.
You guys are -blam!-ing killing my phone.
Exactly. Ive played since beta. Hardcore. 1000+ hours. With the push back of HoW I am taking a mmuch needed break. Bungie looks to never listen to thier pve fans and add an event besides iron banner that caters to us. The game is now very boring having aquired all content two weeks after hard mode dropped. No reason to raid, unless helping friends, have all exotics, have an abundance of coins, shards, energies, commendations, and all legendary weapons I can hold. Strikes get boring, pvp is a joke imo. So what can I do but move on until they decide to give the dedicated players something worth returning for. I just hope they pushed it back to add content, story, and a raid to remember. If they release something that could have been released now, I probably wont come back for future expansions and move on to next game. I love destiny though and I hope it can be turned around. But it looks to be turning into a pvp based game, instead of the open world co-op game it was advertised to be. Its all there bungie, you can still fix it and players will stay and those that left will return. Fix your game before it becomes a one year wonder. And your ten year plan gets flushed down the toilet. Keep the game fresh not repetitive. Id pay monthly if I had to if it was only way.to add new content regularly instead of every five or six months.

They say carrots improve your sight. The more bites you have of the carrot the clearer it becomes that theres less and less here. The more i play the closer my vision gets to 20/20.

This is starting to become a regular thing for most long term players,I wonder if the article will be brushed under the carpet , or i suppose we will just have to buy another mediocre dlc . I still love this game but like the article and so many of my friends am starting to look for other entertainment on xbox, which is a shame because we dont really want to.

There is so many red flags with this whole thing.
It doesn't help that some exotics appear to be weighted to drop more often than others—I've had No Land Beyond, the worst exotic gun in the game, drop for me not once, not twice, but five times.
Huh? wtf is this idiot going on about. I've personally had more Icebreakers and last words over anything else. Same with patience and time. Had that thing over a dozen times.

I can completely agree with this post. Decided to take a break from Destiny because I'm not having the fun I had as before. Only doing a nightfall and see what xûr has to offer besides disappointment. Currently having more fun browsing these forums than playing the game.

Edited by Trx666: 2/11/2015 7:31:28 AMI love the game but I agree with a lot of this article and along with the wrong fixes etc the fact that ABSOLUTELY everything is RNG I believe creates a feeling of wasted time, there needs to be at least some level of clear cut reward say attaining a certain faction level guarunteeing you will get that certain shiny you want whether it be a badass shader or ship etc. Too much RNG is just killing it for everyone I think

Too much shoddy game design coming to roost.

in your face bungie

...my thoughts EXACTLY. unfortunately tho, english is not my main language so i could not have put this is words the way Kirk did no matter how hard i try, but he's right nonetheless. sadly enough, in pretty much everything he says. i kinda knew this 'burn-out' was coming sooner or later, so i did my best to get prepared for it. i have been playing since September (2nd or 3rd week of this game) but only as a Hunter. few weeks ago i've created a Titan and leveled it up to 30 so it's now ready to do Nightfalls and Raids, and this week i've started a Warlock. learning to play effectiveely with the two "new" characters will probably keep me entertained for a while, however most likely not long enough for the next DLC to be released sooner than i hit the same wall again (...and again) this is what Destiny has become for me: a) Nightfall - especially on my two new characters (well, just one for now, the Lock is too low level), i don't even do it for Exotics, or rewards in general, i do it mainly for the 'XP boost' helping my new chars reaching max level without the endless grind b) Weekly - for more (however currently useless) Strange Coins, eventually Xur turns up with HEavy Ammo synthesis, so i'll most likely fill my tiny Vault with them c) Raids - putting Bungie's "improved" loot system to a test, although i seriously struggle to tell the difference between this and VoG when it comes to loot (i did the Raid for the FIRST time ever with my new Titan who's got ZERO raid Weapons/Armor and ALL i got were Shards and Energy from the ENTIRE raid - really very improved) ...all-in-all, even if i do it on a different day for each of my characters, this takes me roughly 1 hour to tackle Crota's ENd HARD mode - beaten it once, got ZERO primary weapons from Crota (which happens to be pretty much the only interesting loot, for me anyway), but i am going to stay as far away from this as i possibly can at least until i match the level of the hard mode (probably with the next DLC). there's simply way too many bugs in there - i did my homework and took notes of "why we fail" and was horrified when i realized that 7-8 times oout of 10 is due to bugs, with only 2-3 being caused by our team doing something stupid. the Heavy Ammo bug is real, i seriously do not feel like farming Eclusion Zone (or do any other type of farming as a matter of fact), Xur has not sold the heavy ammo packs for weeks now, ....need i say more? TL,DR - i seriously like the game, i really, honestly do. what i do not like is the way Bungie treats this 'child' of theirs. the numerous meaningless 'patches' as well as the complete and total lack of reasonable communication, while the 'hardcore' players leaving the game by hundreds (well, dozens for sure) simply cuz they keep failing to add anything 'worthwhile' or, more importantly, fix the ACTUAL bugs. ...as much as i didn't want this to happen, my playtime is significantly reduced to the very very minimum peace out @Kotaku (Kirk) - very very well put, great article indeed, i only wish EVERYONE at Bungie/Activision reads it
-
i might still have the motivation to keep on playing, but...the biggest problem would be (or is) that most of my friends/fixed raid team stopped playing.
-
Kotaku has always been spot-on with all my loves and hates about Destiny. They're just like me too, always talking about it, but always raging about it, because no matter how much it sucks ass, WE CAN'T STOP PLAYING.

Perfect post

I would agree with the entirety of what that article talked about.
-
Amazing article. I agreed with the whole thing. Bump so ActiBungie reads it.

That article hits the nail on the head. Today was the first time i havent done the nightfalls on a tuesday since i first started doing them...and i dont really care sadly. Ill get to them at some point this week but it just doesnt seem to have that entising feeling it used to. I couldnt care less about doing Crotas End everyweek now. My hunter has full crota gear maxed out, warlock has everything but the helmet and just needs shards, and my titan just has the gauntlets. But i dont feel the need to strive to have all 3 at 32 now. I would actually much rather run VoG for the simple fact that its a much higher quality raid. I have actually started collecting a set of VoG armor again just for the hell of it. I still love this game and i (hopefully) will still be playing it for the extended future...we shall see. If they decide to add some of the ideas that the majority of the community seem to want, it could breath enough life back into this game to save it. There is a glimmering light of hope floating somewhere in the darkness amongst this world that we've spent countless hours exploring....err...re-exploring. Lets hope they find it and start making this game into what is COULD BE. But i must admit its been...relaxing...playing dying light for the last week. A game with an actual story, and lets be honest...its hard to beat drop kicking a zombie then beating his head in with an electrified baseball bat.
-
Definitely me too. I've got GTA5 to finish and The Order comes out soon. I will probably take a hiatus pretty soon. I get the same exotics over and over, so I've about given up on getting one I don't have. I have a nice mound of strange coins since Xur hasn't sold anything good lately. I don't really have a reason to play this when I have others things to do.
-
I've also been taking a break. Dying light has been a good game so far
-
+1 Was just about to post this as well...
-
Took a bit of a break and I even went back to reaper of souls, because that game has a way better loot system

Thx for sharing this great article. The issues have been there for a while. Threads have been posted about these issues for a while. We enjoy playing this game. We are even addicted to it. But something just doesn't click together. The repetitiveness and lack of content are mind boggling.
