Open letter to Bungie.
So there was this short story I read in Junior Highschool, it was part of the mandatory reading. This story stuck with me, and to this day still haunts the corners of my mind. The recent round of nerf announcements, and Deej's perpetual explanation of balancing all brought it back. I've posted a youtube link inspired by this story, and a link to the story itself. The rest of this post is based on the ideas from it.
More than anything, I think this is what's bothering me the most. Where I see this game heading. A place where nothing is extraordinary, it's all the same. I don't want to belabor the topic, but I just can't hold my peace on it any longer. I think this round of nerfs is just one too many. The game isn't even 6 months old, but you've nerfed the living hell out of it. I get that some weapons were a bit more powerful, but the nerfs handed out were a bit harsh.
Already all the vanguard, crucible and faction armor is exactly the same. Save some minor cosmetic differences. Every auto rifle is from the same mold, every hand cannon the list goes on. I know Bungie wants to build a great game, but I don't see how you can make great when everything is the same.
I've heard complaints about bladedancers being OP in crucible, and the possibility of toning them down. People complain about Titan shoulder charges, Warlock everything, etc. I say rather than catering to every temper tantrum some guardian is throwing, why not let them wrestle with how to adapt, be better, improve. Bungie you seem to be pulling the nerf bat out too often; if you want to nerf something Bungie start with nerfing.
I don't know a single game that I loved, where every weapon felt exactly like all the others. Where every piece of armor was a carbon copy of another. Where it didn't matter what I picked, because it would all be the same.
10 years of ideas can't possibly have culminated in to creating mediocrity, but that's exactly what you're building. Maybe you have a grandiose behind the curtain plan, but I don't see it. What I do see is a bunch of guardians, who got good at something being punished for outperforming others. I see guardians who put time and effort into achieving something, being handicapped so that you can't tell the difference between a new and veteran players.
I don't condone some of the game breaking cheeses that certain guardians have come up with, but I admire their ingenuity and cleverness. In a game where everyone is equal, it's nice being better at something.
As far as skill, cleverness, ingenuity in this game is concerned, I may be only a George(read the story), but I believe in every Harrison's right to excel.
The Destiny forum topic has a qualifier, "Be Brave." I know you(Bungie) care about this game. All I can tell you is Be Brave, don't be afraid of letting someone, or something excel in this game.

I would much rather be bad at destiny and cursed to never get ghally(lol already am) than for all these auto rifle bull manure
