This is my first real theory and the first one I've thought of while part of the CoK, so here goes.
I believe that somehow, in some way, Nightstalkers have a different relationship with the void than any other subclass. The main cards I'd like to reference are the Voidwalker and Defender cards as well as the "A Nightstalker's Trail" card. The A Nightstalker's Trail" description reads
“Picking it up is the easy part, Hunter. Putting it down again, well, you’ll find that it’s addictive, that power. This weapon is something special. Your light gets twisted. Changed. You find the power to punch through and borrow something from the other side. The Void opens up a hole, and draws from the deep. Go ahead. Carry it a while, Hunter. You’ll feel how heavy it can get.” -Cayde-6
This is exactly how, in my opinion, channeling the void should work, the power should be great, but costly. In comparison, the Defender card barely mentions the void, while the Voidwalker card doesn't point towards negative repercussions for channeling the void. This pattern is also represented in the grimoire card for Void. The card is focused on secrets as opposed to the possible consequences of abusing the void's power. This is why I think that Nightstalkers have a special relationship with the void. Nightstalkers are bound by a Dark Pact-esque relationship with the void.
"Over lifetimes of battle, Voidwalkers drain the life energy of many opponents. Disputes rage in the Tower over effects this might have on a Warlock, but the debate is pointless. If we stop fighting, we all perish." —Ikora Rey
From the voidmaster questline, so there may be serious side effects for warlocks.

Also the only card to mention the deep, which is mentioned a lot in the book of sorrows.
