Well...
For quite some time now, I've had my "Interested in" option set to both men and women on Facebook, but I've kept it private so that no one but me could see it.
But yesterday I decided to make it public, and I did! Unless someone decides to check for it no one will notice, though.

Right on! I've thought about doing the same...God knows I felt horrible about keeping my ex-bf hidden on my account, because I was scared of what people might say :(
