I use corel painter and am wondering how to create content at a sufficient rate. Where do I get started? What can I study? How can I get my work out to the world respectively?

Other than what Progo already said I would say to try many programs and choose your favorite the most mainstream programs are often the worse sadly GIMP and paint.net are the ones i use daily for game dev stuff paint.net has really good opacity and has limitless zoom while gimp is a better painting program if your looking for 3d do the opposite of what most people say AVOID blender at all costs XD it will skew your mind of the 3d industry they don't use any of the terms or methods of big products if you want a general modeling program head on over to and http://www.autodesk.com/ and make a student account you can get 3ds max for free and its an incredible program to start with also there is an incredible tutorial community out there for it (including me soon once i get a computer that can record and model at the same time) and a place to post your work would be right here in this group, on deviant art, and any safe image website you can find also google+, youtube(slideshow), or even a facebook page :) Best of Luck, Nameless

Okay, thanks for the PM reminder :) First off, if you want an easy resource to browse tutorials and the work of other artists, http://www.deviantart.com/ cannot be beaten. It's easier to navigate, and more clean than Tumblr.com. What sort of tablet do you have? Corel Painter is excellent, I've never used it but I've heard good things about it. I'd suggest you either get photoshop or GIMP 2.8 (GIMP is completely free and safe, get it here for Windows http://www.gimp.org/). My only caution with GIMP is that you should save your work every 10 minutes or so, it does crash on rare occasions. Study YouTube tutorials, or visit nifty sites like http://www.howtodrawmanga.com/. If you want feedback on your art, put it up on Deviantart (though getting feedback is a bit rare there with so many people submitting art) and then link us here and ask for advice :) I do that all the time hehe. Just some tips: .1 Always push your boundaries and get our of your comfort zone. .2 Look at a lot of art, before starting a difficult project I'll browse Deviantart a few minutes just getting ideas. .3 Copy the styles of other artists. Doing this is incredibly fun for practicing, and it's legitimate considering how many artists copy the work of great painters :) .4 Don't get discouraged if something looks ugly after half an hour, it might just take 10 more minutes and then it will look great! .5 To open up more opportunities, consider learning to use Blender for 3D modeling http://www.blender.org/, it's complex, but totally worth it.

I know that on tumblr, and other websites, they have "Iron Artist" and other such competitions where you do art daily on a certain topic, and it's a kinda good way to get publicity too. Is that sorta what you're looking for, or something more game related?
