I preferred the image of the Traveler over the earth as dawn broke, referred to as "the placeholder image" and thought they should have gone with that. besides that, my only issue with the real cover is that hunter's helmet... but enough has been said on that.
-
I just wish that guy's head wasn't on backwards. It's pretty alright otherwise.
-
It looks like a futuristic twerk team.
-
I like this image, but I do feel as if they are doing a 'play on visual' ... making it look similar to other things we've seen, yet not. To me it almost says, "better than the Chief", know what I mean.
-
It's great.
-
It looks amazing!
-
It looks like the guy in the center has his head on backwards. I can't unsee it.

Edited by Zeldafan92: 10/1/2013 4:30:46 PMif anyone looks closely , they are the guardians from the law of the jungle trailer . that was awesome , and so is this cover.
-
I love it
-
The perspective is very nice, and definitely invokes the "Become Legend" tagline of the game nicely.
-
I can't unsee this.
-
It's pretty cool. You can tell the guardians are suited up for nasty environment and have badass gear + space magic signaling more than a western. The characters are looking away instead of at you like Halo CE cover art. Empowering you to make your own story?
-
Also just realized the Hunter is facing away from the viewer. I was looking at his helmet and was thinking it looked kinda strange. Then I saw his hand that's holding the gun.Bam! Made sense.
Also was wondering why he had a hood on his chest. lol I feel so dumb
-
I like the place holder
-
I make/download custom covers for all my games anyway, so I'm indifferent.
-
I love it IT HAS THE HUNTER ON THE FRONT! Plus they are facing the other way DRAMATIC Plus the Traveler on the top
-
The back of the Hunter's helmet looks like the Mk V helmet?
-
Edited by zellatron89: 10/1/2013 10:46:55 AMI like it. I gotta say though I wonder why they chose to put a helmet on the hunter that makes it look like it's facing the viewer. Every time I look at it I'm like "his head is facing the wrong way".
-
well, for a concept, it is pretty good
-
Sorry, can't say I like it much. Having all the characters facing away from the viewer is doubtless a deliberate decision, but an odd one. Kind of robs the image of any dramatic tension, and makes me feel excluded, not included. The feeling of distance is reinforced by the cool color palette. Finally, the composition seems a little busy, too many people staring off in too many directions. It feels like a movie poster where all the main actors have been photoshopped together. The original Traveler concept art worked way better for me, but I guess they figure guys with guns are what moves the units.

Edited by Saphyr: 9/30/2013 10:14:22 PM... ... ... I desire to convey an idea against the current image shown. Click the spoiler if you give a damn about my opinion that follows.
Icons. Icons will burn a memory into a gamer's mind when they recall the game. Destiny has an icon, the Traveller. What would be best to introduce the player visually to the game, on its cover? I believe it is the icon itself. No character matches that icon unless they are constant and recurringly familiar in their image. Do you know the icons of games I remember most? Look no farther than my chosen profile image. That was the only front image of my first Bungie game's box. It has recurred ever since, even through the Halo era. Look at the traditional Hylian shield from LoZ. Look at the Traveller, obscured from view as it is here, or the Destiny tricorn. Skyrim has the dragon motif. These games, when you look at the box art, appears special... It appears mysterious. You are artistically compelled to buy it. It should be able to go on your wall as an art piece if it's good enough. Let the back images convey the gameplay action you expect! Let the front convey its soul! I've seen enough action characters on the front of Crysis, CoD, Bioshock, Call of Jaurez, Battlefield, Halo, Borderlands, Fallout 3, etc. in FPS covers. I have had enough! I look at each of these now and I no longer see value in the covers. This cover wouldn't have sold me if I didn't know what Destiny was. It's like any other. What I just said is an echo of those trolls who keep saying that this game is going to be like Borderlands or CoD, but with, what is in their minds, minor differences. We already do not want association with traditional shooters because this game is meant to remake the genre itself and change it; we want our game to be special and iconic. With an image like this, we are associating with that status quo. We want a potential player to say "What is this? ... A cooperative experience blending single player and multiplayer? Huh.", not "Another FPS? Do we even have any more room for these? I already have my 'Modern Warbattles', so I have no business looking at this!" I preferred the first image with just the Traveller for this reason. It's an icon. It is a simple image that will graft itself into the psyche of the player to recall whenever they think "Destiny". Something of this sort is busy, complex, and unfortunately too similar in design principle to many other games that have come about.
None of the above applies if a limited edition case were to abide by the ideal I advocate for above. Getting both in this case probably works out better for everyone than getting only either.

I like it, however the place holder cover art was better. Still its great. I just want a version as wallpaper for mobiles.
-
I thinks it's badass. And I also love how generic they made the characters seem, with the majority of the Hunter covered by his cloak, as if to say: "Make of this what you want. 'Tis your destiny. Really leaves it open for you to forge your own character, and not be to influenced by what the "ideal character" should look like.
-
I really like it. Though I think I'd have preferred the original idea.
-
The only change I would like would to make it that all three guardians are the same size/distance/position, with the traveller looming over them.
-
I think its way cooler than the previous one. The only thing I would change is the three Guardians having the same space in the cover, not focusing on the Hunter or any other Guardian. The text should be on a place with nothing on, so that people who aren't familiarized to Destiny know what the game's name is.
