I wasn't really interested in it at first and was actually skeptical (particularly about Raiden suddenly going back to being a psycho after MGS4's ending), but I ended up giving it a try and it was really good. Just completed it today. The music and boss fights stood out the most.
So, for the sake of discussion value, was anyone else surprised by this game? And what were your overall thoughts on it (assuming you've played it)?

Best final boss of 2013

Edited by Wolvers: 3/18/2013 4:54:30 PMPicked it up Saturday. I'm on Chapter 4 right now, and I'm honestly enjoying it more than any Metal Gear since MGS3. And that's including Peace Walker, which I loved (aside from Act 5.)

Played the demo several times and couldnt get myself into it just because of the retarded block system. Once I master blocking I might look into it.

To be honest, I wasn't surprised at all. Platinum has an extremely good track record, and they're well known as one of the best action game developers out there. That's why Kojima handed it off to them when they were just about to scrap it after so many failures.

Fantastic soundtrack. Below average writing. But below average for the Metal Gear series is still eons ahead of 90% of other games.

Why were you surprised about Raiden's psychological issues? He ending in MGS4 wasn't happy or fulfilling at all. "Oh boy the women I hated for years suddenly wants me again, and I have a kid. Too bad I'm still a former child solider that gets pleasure from killing people."

The OST is astounding.

I had my doubts at first but after playing the demo and seeing the final trailer I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Doing my Revengeance Run now and holy shit it's challenging. The very first level in particular, without upgrades, you walk round the corner and there's 2 Fenrirs and about 3 RPG dudes who can each 2-hit kill you
