I used to sell car accessories, tires, oil, and other things. Does that count?

Define "auto". I occasionally get to do maintinence on small aircraft engines, which are just pushrod flat fours for the most part.

Nope. I kind of wanted to be the detail guy for a dealership but never found any open positions.

I used to design for pontiac... the GP and Grand AM used to have the little ribs on the side, that was my idea... then I left to do rally.

I'm an advanced drive instructor. I get to play with all kinds of cars and motorcycles. I don't teach how to drive in traffic, i teach how to handle a cars or in my case mainly motorecycles at high speed and extreme manoeuvres

I'm not good enough with my fingers to do that.

Directly for a manufacturer? no For companies that supplied tooling and parts for the big 3? yes Other than that my Dad taught me to rebuild engines and do the regular maintenance things on cars, trucks, semis, and tractors.

I gave your mom a lube job, does that count?

I used to detail cars for Hyundai and Toyota, as well as a private high end business. I guess that sort of counts.
