This article really articulates where Bungie stepped in it and got me thinking.

I was starting contemplate the stupidity of Bungie rolling out the new DLC one week before the IB. Every one knows that Light Level, defense ratings, and attack ratings mater. So if you used any exotic regularly you HAVE to upgrade it through Xur. I say this because the upgraded version of the stats are slightly better than a fully upgraded original. However, you loose all the damned perks not to mention Light Level on armor.
Now considering that Xur is only available starting Friday to upgrade them that only gives you 4 days to grind like crazy to get some of those lost abilities and light levels back before IB starts! Unless you have all weekend and nothing else better to do this is going to be very tough. Bungie royally screwed us here.
If it matters, I think the process of upgrading exotics should change to something much more simpler. After a DLC drops, add another column of three damage bubbles that can be filled using the associated raid upgrade materials. These additional bubbles will get you from the old maximum attack/defense rating & light level to the new max. The initial investment isn't lost and there is a viable but yet still challenging upgrade path to earn the next tier. Also new players will have to go through the same exact grind we did to get these items upgraded.
Vendors offer both the original and new items but if you don't have the associated DLC you are SOL... Old raid legendary items should be good enough to get you started in the new DLC content where you can find gear required for the new raid. Vendor armor shouldn't be able to get you directly in the new raid but to the point where you can complete some parts of it. Exactly like VoG was. You could get to 26 with vendor gear sans exotic, allowing you to complete certain parts or get back packed through. As you find more pieces of Raid Armor life gets a little easier. Now if they had just fixed the effin drop rates they wouldn't have needed to sell lvl 30 gear through the IB.

Edited by o0 XavioR 0o: 12/15/2014 9:13:30 PMAfter reading that...I think lvl 31 is good enough for me :-) I didn't really plan on running the new raid on hard anyway. And if the new IB doesn't offer lvl 32 gear, I doubt I'll play it much (if any). Which sucks since it was one of my favorite activities. *edit* I'll probably end up scraping most of my old weapons and armor now that they're useless LOL I enjoy playing the game, but I'm done with the grind

1.) Agree 100% on the addition of upgrade bubbles...just makes sense. 2.) Exotics take same amount of time to rank up. I notice no difference at all. Shame on Bungie. 3.) Not getting exp for Raid is the dumbest shit ever. I spent all my play time yesterday to Raid. I feel like I fell behind in the game because I didn't do any bounties and got 0 experience...I repeat 0 experience for a LOT of time investment. 4.) I like playing 3 characters, but they are making it nearly impossible for me to keep up with all the additions of new bounty sets, currency's, etc.

Nice, thanks Code. Now I'm angry.

I agree they could have done some things better. I'm ok with how they handled the exotics (granted adding three bubbles would have been better). Exotics are supposed to be just that, exotic. The mistake they made was having Xur sell exotics in the first place. If they left it to exotic bounties and random drops, the weapons would have remained coveted. I've got 8 or so exotics, I routinely use 2 of them. There may be 2 more that come out weekly. The others are just taking up space. Effectively the new upgrade path is forcing people to choose, which should result in weapon diversity within the game, which I'm in favor of. Adapting your play style around your weapons (and your opponents' weapons) is an intriguing aspect of this game. When Xur arrived at the tower last week, I decided on 3 exotics to upgrade. From there, I picked one to have ready for IB tomorrow. My Thorn will be maxed out. Starting on Thursday, it was the only primary I used in PvP and PvE. Was it under powered? Yup. Did it make the daily missions, crota missions, bounties, etc a pain in the butt? Yup. But the time and effort I've put in will make the "floating 7" kills in the IB that much more satisfying. The DLC dropped last week. It took us weeks to max out after the game first arrived. Why were our expectations any different this time around? If getting maxed armor, levels, weapon damage, and beating the raid were easy; everyone would do it. If that were the case, then where is the fun. In a world full of blue "participation ribbons", I actually like the grind...it reminds me of the real world, no one hands you anything and if you want something worth while you need to work for it. stepping off my soapbox See you all in the galaxy.
