Hey guys, Analytical Ghost here.
When you hear the title "Iron Wolves" what does it make you think?
I've been seeing people believing that the second wave of Iron Lords introduced in ttk are called "Iron Wolves". This is only half true. Even though it was common knowledge in ttk, not anymore. Things change.
Using this logic, you can call Saladin, Jolder, Perun, etc, an Iron Wolf. The term "Iron Wolf" is a term used by the Warlords to mention the Iron Lords.
My proof is in "Iron Lords: Lady Perun", in which the mayor of the settlement calls the iron lords "Wolves". We see why later when Segoth, the Warlord who controls the area, comes through the path and is confronted by the lords.
“Well, well,” said Segoth. “The Iron Wolves.”
“Cease your insults,” Saladin barked
Perun shot him a surprised look. “That’s an insult? I kinda like ‘Wolves.’”
Segoth in the quotation above used "Wolves" as an insult, even slur, against the Iron Lords. Perun, on the other hand, likes the name. Thus why Wolves are used to decorate the iron banner.
So technically, yes the second wave Iron Lords are "Wolves", but so is Saladin and Efrideet. Even your character. I, honestly, like to describe the second waves as "Iron Wolves", but if I do I'll make sure to detail correctly. Heck, I might even call them second waves. Also, take a look at every one of the Iron Lords Siva fragments. They detail the deaths of "Wolves" yet are named "Iron Lords". Using common sense, this is my final proof.
To conclude, I will disprove certain "theories" that I have seen that are incorrect.
Iron Wolves (or Lords) are not actual wolves. You might have seen the prelude cutscene and read the grimiore that describes it where it goes into detail about the wolves behind him, but connecting that to things that happened centuries ago isn't logical. My proof to show that people like Colovance, Finnala, Tormod, etc, weren't actual wolves is this.
"Dormant Siva: Iron Lords 2.4" describes how Finnala does not fear death, as stated here:
Finnala always says she doesn’t mind dying, because it doesn’t last. A few seconds and then the Light comes, bright and warm. And she rises again.
Notice this: "then the Light comes, bright and warm. And she rises again." This is proof that Finnala, a second wave Iron Lord (or Wolf) is most definitely a guardian, because nothing else can be revived with the light like this. The fallen might be able to collect souls and revive their fallen allies, but that doesn't mean anything. That is darkness, not light.
Secondly, no Lords survived except for Saladin and Efrideet. Theories that are unprovable like "Some of the Wolves could be alive" is terrible logic. Just because we have no mention on every death of the Iron Wolves (or Lords), doesn't mean they are still alive. There were 100 Iron Lords, evident from the cutscene in which Saladin details this. To quote:
100 lords set out to contain Siva. Only 9 made it to the Replication Chamber
Seeing this, you know that 91 of them died before the actual chamber. And 1 was not present during the battle, Efrideet. You could argue that we don't have statues of them, or artifacts, but look in the Dormant Siva cards. We have detail of random, unnamed Iron Lords dying, and some Iron Wolves (or Lords). Using this sample size, we can assume that they all died, with Saladin as a witness.

That last reference only says that there were 9 iron Lords in the chamber. There were 91 other guardians (close enough) there fighting Rasputin's armies. It seems likely that at least one chickened out that saladman lost track of.

Edited by Spenc: 10/20/2016 1:27:25 AMI always thought that the wolves could be the iron lords reincarnate. Further proof of this is the card Ghost Fragment: Mysteries 3
He sees the wolves have formed up around him. Eight of them.
eight main iron lords. They are the ones that are at the iron temple.

Edited by Zero the Remnant: 10/15/2016 1:45:39 PMInteresting. Thank you for the Lore and explanation of it. Bungie is too obsessed with Wolves. They should have given The Fallen a different animal then. House of Wolves, Iron Wolves, Wolfpack rounds, Lord of Wolves. I want a House of Tigers, House of Badgers, House of Squirrels, House of Wolverines. Iron Lions, Iron Frogs, Iron Boars Lol. So some of those are jokes. But I am sadly getting tired of wolves... (Bad enough solo players like me are called Lone Wolves.)

At the beginning of it, it naturally would have been self appointed as "Iron Lords" but as they became more powerful the populous pro table saw them as a pack. As they were in the proverbial dark ages again. Other noticed how they ran together as a pack, and naturally liked that to the behavior of a pack of wolves. This, iron lords and iron wolves are interchangeable.

I don't know much about the lore, but there are always more wounded than dead in battle. So, I don't think the fact that Saladin says only nine made it to the chamber is dispositive of 90 deaths. Some may have survived.
-
Just because only 9 made it to the replication chamber doesn't necessarily mean the other 91 died. For all we know, they could be lost some Vex portal.
-
It's a wolf made out of iron...duh.
-
I'd rather be an iron elephant. Or an iron whale! Every time i pick up the rift shaxx should scream "HERE COMES THE IRON WHALE'" instead of "runner advancing"
-
End of RoI mission 1. Saladin: "Even old wolves still bite" can't hate the term that much

MERRRRRRRR.

Reference to y1 HoW confirmed
-
Who the hell would use "wolves" as an insult? There's too much nobility in the word. Maybe if it was "dogs" instead it would carry more weight.
-
Iron wolf. That means that the Devil Splicers are not the only threat... BRING IT ON SKOLAS! I PUT YOU DOWN ONCE!! I'LL PUT YOU DOWN AGAIN!!!
-
Who gives a crap? Its a game. I think your a little overinvested in it. Go out and get some fresh air.
-
So there are Iron Lords Iron Sworn And Iron Wolves?
-
I love the interaction of Warlords v. Wolves.
-
Efrideet abandoned the Iron Lords before the SIVA incident. She never entered the plaguelands.
-
Replication Chamber crew were the real OGs. The gear from year 2 name crew were people that joined after them but got rekt by Rasputin's defenses outside the chamber. And Efrideet left to join the "peace and love" squad before it all went down.

Favorite part is the card says "Cease your insults Saladin barked" hehehe barked
-
Tottaly off subject but still lore: Anyone else noticed the easteregg refrences to master chief and cayde 6 being "buck" from halo?

Acturally, the warlords could use their ghosts to revive as well. Guardians aren't the only ones.

Dude, Alan in The Hangover explains all of this.

My dog is cute

I thought the Iron Wolves and the Iron Lords were different (but still linked) They were like a subset of the Iron Lords, they fought in parallel to the Lord's, as opposed to below them
-
One fun thing to note about the 'Iron Wolves' is that Bretromart and Dedris were supposedly the first members of the Risen sought out to join the newly banded Iron Lords, implying that they joined before the likes of Silimar or Felwinter.
