Well, in PvE content that involves crowd control and putting an end to waves of mobs, it's Bad Juju.
In PvP, I prefer to use Red Death as it allows me to kill my prey and keep going without hesitation.
However, I'm using these Pulse rifles for their secondary exotic characteristics. Were they merely legendary without their respective perks, I wouldn't touch them. And I barely use them as is, only when I'm feeling frisky; there's always a different weapon type that's better.
I would like to use this thread to gather Pros and Cons for the Pulse Rifle weapon archetype. Please post your opinions on what is good and what is bad.
Pros:
*Dispenses bullets faster than anything other than Auto Rifles, and with a crit modifier higher than Autos.
*Decent zoom for mid range engagements
*I'm finding it very hard to write pros, and have been scraping the bottom of the barrel since the beginning... Send help.
Cons:
*Magazine size on the highest rate of fire Pulse rifles seems to be 30, without Field Scout, which is 10 bursts. This is like having a scout rifle with a magazine of 10 and bullets which occasionally do less damage (to make sense of missing some bullets in a burst).
*Crit modifier should match Scout Rifles. It's a mid to close range precision weapon, and should be treated as such.
*Base zoom (and inherent field of view reduction) may be too high. I should be most effective when equipped with a pulse rifle while taking on an enemy somewhere between Auto rifle and Scout rifle range, but this becomes hard to do when I'm zooming in for Scout rifle range.
*Low range. Should have current Scout rifle range, while Scout rifle range is doubled.
*Low accuracy mid-burst. These weapons kick like a mule in the middle of a burst. The stability of Pulse Rifles should be like that of a laser mid-burst. It should kick on the final round of each burst.
*Pulse rifle perks are generally pretty bad. The perks specific to them are based on the user missing rounds, it's as if Bungie intended for them to be bad. I would change hidden round to "If all 3 shots of the burst land precision damage, it fires a fourth, at the cost of no ammunition." and Headseeker to "Landing consecutive headshots increases precision damage for a short time." or "Killing an enemy with precision damage increases precision damage for a short time."
That's all I've got. If you've got more suggestions to give Bungie, please post them and I can edit them into the list for easier viewing. I will give you credit.
Please also let me know if you disagree on any points I've made in either Pros or Cons.

I think my Coiled Hiss 1919 on my hunter is pretty good. It's perks are Headseaker, Hammer Forged and Reactive Reload

Been using Pulse Rifles for the last couple weeks because everyone hated on them so much, I wanted to give them a fair shake. First one I got was Three Little Words. Obviously it stands out from the rest of the current legendaries with its stellar impact. After leveling it and using it for a week, I found that it is a very capable weapon that would benefit immensely from either Outlaw or Field Scout. Either one would really make it really stand out. The next one I got was Coiled Hiss. I had less hope for it because of the low impact, but once I got it the RoF was the first that I found on a legendary that lived up to what I thought they should have. Unlike Three Little Words, it also has Outlaw and along with the stability perks, it is the Pulse Rifle I'd always wanted to find. Have used it for the last week and it really is a great weapon.

Edited by LONE RONIN2012: 2/7/2015 5:28:53 AMLet me upgrade my Strange Suspect, and I'm good. The new ones are crap. Strange Suspect had that balance in rof, impact, stability, and range. The thing was a head shot machine if used right. Sadly, the glory days of Strange Suspect and Bad Seed Down are coming to a twilight and the new pulse rifle either fire too fast with lower impact, no real range, or some other balancing issue as to why I refuse to use them.

I like Red Death. Something about it just appeals to me for some reason

I've been working on Red Death for hard mode raids with no health regen. Need to get my Bad Juju upgraded for my Warlock, with Obsidian Mind and some Voidewalker tweaking I'm hoping to have plentiful Nova Bombs..

Bad juju. Strangers rifle would be right up there if it had a better damage value or was an evolving weapon

Too early to say. I have the Bad Juju, Red Death and just got Oversoul Edict. I have played a little with Bad Juju but not enough to form an opinion. I do want to try to get this leveled up before the next juggler nightfall comes around. Red Death is amazing in the Hard Mode Crota fight, it's really nice to just be able to heal by killing something. I'm a fan. Looking forward to taking the Oversoul Edict out for a spin.

Edited by IrishTheSavage: 2/5/2015 5:01:48 PMThree Little Words :) Has probably highest Impact in a pulse rifle. That ive seen, Slower rate of fire but if used in the right way its awesome, the Crucible one has Radar always on and Body shots increase precision dmg. Its equipped on my Hunter

Oversoul edict is the best hands down crucible or pve
-
Over soul edict I love it it's one of my favs

I like the all-three critics, fourth shot free perk. As is, even if you land all three shots, you get the equivalent of a single SR headshot*. It's harder to land all three if a burst than to land just one SR shot. *tested with a fully upgraded 300 attack Strange Suspect and a partially upgraded Badger CCL (~300 attack)

I find that I have hatred for all pulse rifles except oversoul edict. It has a perfect balance of fire rate and impact as well as magazine size.
