Order of things to do to get better loot: 1) bounties (Start with this to level up vanguard or a faction of your choosing. Every rank after two you get a package that could have legendary armor, weapons or a load d of crap. Plus if you level vanguard you can use the marks you earn to buy weapons and armor.) 2) nightfall - I'm hesitant about nightfall because they were difficult if you are doing it solo and you get kicked to orbit if your party wipes. Not only that, you could get shards, energy or some crappy shotgun that you will never use. But you can also get the Holy grail. My buddy got a ghallajhorn today. I've gotten some cool drops such as heart of praxic fire, last word, patience and time and etc. I've also gotten 5 strange coins. 3) weekly heroic - get your 9 strange coins. If you have three Characters you can get 27. That will give you access to what xur sells. He sold ice breaker this week, if you didn't get it you just missed out on the best sniper in the game. 4) roc strikes. This is mostly to get blue engrams to level up cryptarch. I'm very reluctant to say this because I keep getting blue engrams from the cryptarch after every rank. After bungie fixed the cryptarch, he hasn't dropped a legendary for me. I've already leveled him up 10+ ranks. But some people get legendary engrams every other rank. Plus you have a chance of getting legendary engrams from roc strikes. I got 4 legendary engrams out of 10 strikes. Sometimes you go through a dry spell. 5) raids - you can do vault of glass. You have a chance of getting exotic weapons from the chests and atheon. Templar drops fatebringer which is one of the best handcannon. Crotas end, if you're not cheering than you won't be able to run it at 29. Even at 31 if you have terrible weapons. 6) crucible. If you suck you'll most likely get something. It's usually the worse players that get the best drops. I got an ice breaker from there, and yes I do suck at it! Hopefully that will help clear somethings up.
