I've been working on the Crucible portion of the Thorn bounty for about 2 weeks. All the way up to 41/500. Yes, it's that damn hard; at least for me. The limitation of Void Damage combined my barely passable PVP play is just a bit much. I can't imagine actually ever getting past this part of the bounty, but I really want an Exotic Hand Cannon so I've been continuing to trudge through.
And then today, after just a random Control match, some level 27 dude gets Hawkmoon...as a frickin random crucible reward. I was so frustrated, I just quit playing for the day.

Save up some Vanguard/Crucible marks, then buy a legendary Void Shotgun, and run around with only that gun

Edited by UnguardedMeteor : 11/29/2014 2:04:09 PMI can guarantee that you are going to have one good game and it will encourage you to continue doing the bounty. Don't discard it, you'll get there. What's the word? Finish it yet?

Whelp. I'm finally ready to Abandon this Exotic Bounty. I'm down to 30/500 in the Crucible portion and it's just never going to happen. I should have abandoned this quest weeks ago. Too bad. I really wanted Thorn. But the exotic bounties requiring exceptional performance in PVP is a crock of crap.

Rumor is the new Hunter subclass in DLC will have Void damage. I had a tough time using blue shotties and rocket launcher as only means, but it did happen after a couple of setbacks. Cloak with shotty and hunt/camp! Stay out of Rumble, that tore down my progress after the 5 match bounty.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'll keep plugging away. As a hunter, no Void class damage but I did finally get a blue level 20 shotgun with Void damage. I'll stick with control and try to just wait for them to come to me. I also get that it's the journey not the destination. I'm already better at crucible than I was a few weeks ago. Even got a 2.5 K/D in one game...by far my highest ever. Unfortunate not all those kills were void damage. I really feel like it should either be just Void damage kills with no penalty for deaths OR any kills are +5 with the -2 penalty for dying.

I know the feeling. After several times witnessing someone in either Tiger Strikes or the Crucible receiving Exotics for coming in at the last second or even AFKing I wonder why I should even try anymore.

Hey don't get depressed Thaladar! We all have bad days in the crucible. You have only played about 25 games in their in total. You just need to play it more and get used to all the dirty tricks. Did you see the guide that Dutch-du-mmy posted? I wrote something aswell giving some advice. Check the link at the top of the 'welcome to thorny guardians' thread. The best thing to do is move around with others in the team. Don't be a lone wolf for this. You'll die less! I see that you recently joined us. I'm going to add you to one of our PSN chatrooms. Add the guys in the chatroom as a friend and when someone has time they'll help you through :)

I can imagine. I really want Hawkmoon, too. I know the Thorn bounty is a pain. Especially if you aren't a regular at the crucible. I was stuck on Xyor for about 2 weeks. Longest two weeks of my life. Stuck. I could not kill Xyor by myself. So I tried with some friends, no problem right?.. A group of a few newly acquired friend help my out. We get all the way to the end, Xyor's in the room, chaos all around. Wizards flying in the air shooting and screaming, Knights hacking at our feet. And I had every chance to kill Xyor and miss.. She gets caught up in the fray. I lose her. One guardian down, the next trying to save him.. I panic and attack to try and finish her off.. get surrounded and can't find cover.. I died like a jerk. I got greedy.. Thorn.. I choked. Flat out. The other players where hitting and shooting me after the respawn knowing I got greedy. I felt horrible. I wanted Thorn so bad. It was so close. But now know I have at least one more gut wrenching battle ahead of me. It stung.. I'm a adult.. I was pissed. All that to tell you I know how you feel.. But I didn't give up. As a matter of fact, you can look in my inventory and you will find a fully upgrade Thorn. My personal weapon. I may use other weapons, but Thorn is what I bring into battle. My trophy piece, my Excalibur. I earned that weapon through some very hard gameplay and perseverance. You will do the same. Go out and be aggressive. Use that frustration to your advantage. Find a void shotgun or Fusion rifle. Play control (everyone comes running right at you) and you'll get the points in no time. The exotic bounty are made to push players out of their comfort zones to claim their prize.. It worked, I'm far better at the crucible because of that bounty. I failed like you did. But I adapted and so will you. I don't care what anyone says. Thorn's worth it. Get it to 300, you'll see why. Good luck, buddy. Delta

Hi Thaladar, try switching to a void subclass if you are not a hunter, and hang in the back and snipe some people with a void sniper rifle. If you cant, try getting at least a 0.5 K.D. with void weapons only. When you are really desparate try getting some freinds together in a rumble match and make it so that only you can kill. Good luck out there buddy.

I know how you feel, when I first got the bounty I was playing for like 3 hours and only got to 20-ish. But like Dutch and Delta are talking about, pick up a shotgun or sniper rifle. And I totally agree with Delta, Exotics bounties are not just a way to get cool items but they are a great way to become a better player. Prior to taking on this bounty, I was absolute dirt with a shotgun. You could be right infront of my face and I'd still miss you. lol. But I picked up the Comedian(Vanguard Shotgun) out of desperation because I just couldn't rely on my sniper in those tight spots. And now, well my main Special weapon is still the Comedian. lol Exotics are cool and all, but it's not near as cool to just get one as a random reward, as it is to actually put the effort into it and finally see fruition. I collect Exotics but not because I like the weapons but because I like to remember the good times, and the bad, and laugh... then cackle. >:D
