Being willing to absolve someone else of their failings isn't acceptable - it's cheating and not allowing someone to take responsibility for their own actions. Would it be acceptable for someone else to go to prison for the crimes of another? For someone else to take the blame? I really can't see a moral way of justifying that position.

Nevertheless, the fact that Christians treat Jesus as a scapegoat is more than enough for it to be valid and used as an example of something unacceptable.
