Bungie needs to give players the tools to drive content.
With games evolving, consumer expectations are at an all time high. Game developers can no longer provide enough content to keep their customers happy for a sustained amount of time. What developers should be focusing on is how they can implement the tools in game to allow the players and the communities around their games to "entertain themselves".
We see Bungie supporting communities like DestinyTracker.com and that is absolutely a great thing! However, in addition to that, they need to start thinking of ways they can allow the players, the guardians, to create ways to interact with the world and "entertain themselves". It would simply take some of the burden off of themselves to pump out content (Let's be honest, in seven weeks we have basically done everything in the game multiple times) and let the community take initiative to explore the game.
One of the main ways to do this is custom/private matches (with a forge function).
I can think of no better way to let the community create activities and things to do than by allowing them to edit and create games for themselves. This (simple?) addition would extend the longevity of the game and lessen player burnout (which I know is sadly already setting in after seven weeks).
Imagine having this list of things to do on top of what is already available in a given evening of playing:
Sparrow Racing
Obstacle Courses
Attack & Defend
Capture The Flag
King Of The Hill
Oddball
Demolition
Infected (Zombies - I remember this from the Halo days)
Forging (I know many players could spend an entire evening or many evenings creating maps)
Grifball
Vehicle Matches (ammo is not supplied on the map, forcing players to use the provided vehicles)
Allow for GameBattles/MLG/Urgent Fury

The reason I still play Elder Scrolls, L4D, Mirrors edge, and a few others is because of player driven content. A lot of these is a must.
