I've seen threads of the like since I first went through the forums, and it seems like some people find it hard to understand that the reason behind it is that there is a possibility. It's as simple as this:
If I can have a sandwich, why not?
If I can have a coke, why not?
If I can have both, why the -blam!- not?
I'm really curious about why this disturbs people so much. Like, seriously. This is not a dating site, so don't expect a female avatar to be a female, and don't expect a male character to be a male. It just doesn't work like that and shouldn't ever work like that. Games are the worlds of possibilities. In a game, especially in the open ones with character creator, you can be whatever you want. And that's great. There is no need to make your in game avatar similar to you in any way. If you want to, you can, obviously, but there is no need for that. Lots of people play games to inmerse themselves in a totally different world than theirs. They don't want to be the rutine-absorbed mcdonalds worker, or the test-stressed student. They want to inmerse themselves in a different reality- and the best way to do that is to empathize with the character without feeling that you are the character. You know, like those paper things called books.
That's one of various reasons. Some people find the male models of this game not really appealing. I have to agree, yet I love how my awoken looks. Some other people believe the tale of the smaller hit box. Others simply like better the female figure. And all of these reasons are equally valid.
So, I'm really asking you: why do you feel so disturbed about males playing as females? You are free to answer in a respectful way. If you are going to:
- Mess about their gender identity/expression in a harmful way
- Say things like: "Cause all 'em wanna be trannies m8". You can say that you believe they feel like women in their innerself, but tranny is pretty much offensive.
- And, in general, be rude
Your comment will not be taken into account. Basically you can say whatever you want without being rude. Not that hard uh?
SO: If you've read this far, thank you. If you are going to be rude, leave. If you are going to be nice, treat yourself with cute kitty pictures.
Edit: I forgot to say this:
There's those people that say "males should play as males. They have gender problems if they don't boohoo". Well then, following that rule humans should play as humans and as nothing else, if not they have species related problems. Yet, I see no one complaining about people playing as exos/awoken.
Edit 2: When I said I wouldn't take rude comments I was not joking, I swear. Not by a second.
Edit 3: Comments saying that suicide is tha fault of the one comitting it are counted as rude, and therefore I will not take them into account.

Can't believe this is a thing. I only play as male characters because I find it a little more immersive but I tend to assume every female character I meet is a r/l male till proven otherwise. A few guys on my raid crew play as female characters and though there's been a couple of jokes I honestly believe no one could care less. To any that are freaked out about it, it's a game - did you ever play Tomb Raider? Bayonetta? Metroid? You gotta be either a real creeper or really uncomfortable with your own skin for this to be an issue.

The male hunter is -blam!-ing retarded looking!
-
I am a dude who would of like to be a girl character but chose not to because all the guys would be hitting on me when I'm in the tower. All i know is that if your a guy playing as a girl just know the consequences and the benefits p.s. dudes playing girls don't be grinding on other dudes yes there dancing is alluring to some dudes and dat ain't right. I don't dance with anyone because of that reason
-
Well my first two character were males so I figure why not. Plus the female I have is a hunter And I feel like a hunter should be an agile female like Lora Croft
-
Female characters making running around the towert interesting.
-
Cause if I am gonna stare at an ass for about 5 hours it might as well be a girls'
-
Its all about that ass though...
-
The only problem I have with males playing female characters is they can never give you a good reason as to why they would play as one. It's always 'Why not?' It makes me a little suspicious of the mental condition of a man who gladly parades around like a women with no idea, or not willing to admit why they do it...
-
i had a male warlock and remade a female cause i feel they're more suitable for that specific class........also my hunter needed a GF :P. my titan doesn't care just as long as he's punching things.
-
I just made a female hunter and male warlocks the male hunters look like gay super Heros
-
I'm transgender that's my reason and same reason for a few friends in the same predicament.
-
Why take such a long time to make this post it's very well thought out but I don't see why this is so important to you?
-
I have a human male Titan and a human female Warlock. I sorta have a rule in RPGs (even if this isn't one) in which once I beat the game I replay it as the opposite gender. It's mostly done to see the differences in the script (Destiny seems to have its script so that it's unisex, so a fail for me), player choices (again, none in Destiny), bonuses, etc.

Edited by Beats1: 11/17/2014 2:13:05 AMDumb thread for dumb bleeding heart liberals that want to give trophies to all the losing teams and exotics to all the bottom players.

That was deep...

I used to feel awkward about it during other games because sometimes there was gender specific classes and the female class would always be the stronger and smarter decision but here comes random family members and little cousins and nephews "why are you playing as a girl". It wasn't till recently that I started flipping people off whenever they ask me that question. If I had to say as an exact answer to my choice to play a female character it's because video games made women some of the most badass characters in any game. We have the sirens in borderlands we have bayonetta Lara croft of tomb raider fem shep of mass effect the list goes on.
-
I have a female warlock and it's because I feel like the warlock suits a female character more, it makes more senses than having a titan female but what ever
-
I made male characters during the alpha and beta, and I didn't like how they looked. So I made all three of my characters female, and if you ask me why it simple answer, I just like the way they look and having my character being a strong female killing the shit out of vex, cabal, fallen, and hive is just a -blam!-ing awesome thing to me. Plus I'm comfortable with my sexuality to make and play with female characters, I will be doing the same thing in Dragon Age: Inquisition, Oh I will be making a dude also since you know have to get all the romance scenes.
-
I have three characters human hunter, exo Titan, and awoken warlock. My warlock looks kinda like the queen, since the story in my opinion and others is lacking I made my own story that I will become the queen of the awoken. Also the light beyond nemesis helm would look silly on a male character. So I made a female character for reasons not related to anything sexual I made them to hopefully become queen of the awoken and open the reef for everyone to explore.

My clan went around and asked a bunch of male players why they have female characters. The overwhelming response was getting to look at a female ass. When asked if they get off to fictionalized characters, they called it disgusting and asked who would do that. Lolwut?

-
so, this is actually a thing? I had no idea this was an issue. I've been using a female warlock for a while. another (male) buddy of mine has two female characters of his three. who the f--k cares?
-
I play a female character because I like watching female characters running around on the screen. I figure the rest of you play male character for the same reason....right? Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
Ok, I'm a 19 yr old male, I play a female awoken hunter. I chose this for many reasons one of them being simply that I felt like it. Also, the customization options I felt were better and if anyone of my friends ever have an issue with it I'd tell em that why is it weird when a male plays as a female WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE but in a game such as Metroid, its not a problem? I dont get it, its a game. Also there really shouldn't even be a difference culturally and socially between GENDERS. Sexes are biological of course but the gender roles between male, female, or other shouldn't matter both IRL or in a game. But yeah.
