True - but it still leaves us to question why we are fighting them if they are our defense. Maybe since they are not solely mechanical, Rasputin does not have full control?

We only seem to be fighting them because some mysterious shifty-eyed exo told us to. We chased them down because we were told to. It seems to that while the guardians are necessary to destroy the darkness (because of their light), the vex are buying us the time that we need to reclaim the strength that we lost. Maybe Rasputin knows that us guardians need to think that we are alone in this fight, so that we don't place all of our faith in the vex to save us.
-
Well the traveler thought the Vex were evil enough to stop them, and I'm pretty sure a Semi-god creature could tell the difference between friend or foe.
-
If you're referring to the battle that the speaker "could tell us about", but didn't, I don't think that battle was against the vex. I think it was a hive invasion (which would explain how they got the shard of the traveler).
-
When did the traveler stop them?
-
When the ghost was talking about Mercury being taken over by the vex he then said "They would have done the same thing to earth if the Traveler hadn't stopped them"

I like that idea...but, we also do communicate with the Speaker, and our Ghost; the Stranger is not the only one who we listen to. Somewhere within the forums, someone made an interesting connection with the Stranger, that they are more of a rebel who left the Guardian order. And when the Speaker expresses his hope of Dinklebot choosing wisely this time, that they are referring to the Stranger going off on her own...she clearly knows way more than we do (even with grimoire), so maybe she is trying to direct Guardians the wrong way to help her "cause". But anyways, we mainly follow the advice of Dinklebot, who is sending information back to the Speaker. And we are rewarded by multiple people for what we do to the Vex throughout the tower...so if they are Rasputin's defenses, Rasputin is the only one aware of that. I really hope more of these stories become apparent through future content.I feel like an intriguing book could be written once all of the puzzle pieces are put together.

To be honest, my only concern where destiny is concerned is that the story they give us is not as good as the one that some of these guys are pulling from the clues we've been given.
-
Also, why did no one in the tower tell us about any of the races that we encountered? We fought them back once, so their presence must be known. I don't think the speaker or the vanguard know nearly as much as they pretend to.
-
Their presence is know, you are the only that don’t know anything cuz you were dead and with amnesia (as it seems) and for some reason you are not interested enough to ask
-
With the speaker and stranger obviously withholding information, I honestly can't blame dinklebot and our guardians for not asking those questions. Better to figure things out for ourselves than to be told "I could tell you..." or "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain".
-
or we're intentionally being kept in the 'dark'.. as pawns of a sort. the stranger talks about the importance of taking a side.. 'even if it is the wrong one'.
-
I fully agree
