I've noticed as of late that it's getting harder and harder for me to find a group of people who are willing to play through the raid on hard as intended, instead of using game exploits to beat the Templar and Atheon.
While you are free to play the game however you like, please explain to me what is the point of obtaining level 30 raid gear and weapons when all you are going to do is exploit the raid bosses for loot?
Your level in Destiny indicates your time invested in the game, not your skill
This is why you see high level players complaining on the forums that the Iron Banner is broken because they get killed by a level 8.
When in reality that level 8 is simply just a better player because he spends his time actually playing the game, not sitting in a raid waiting for the Warlock in your group to knock Atheon off the ledge so you can get your Vex Mythoclast.
If there is anyone out there who actually plays the raid for the challenge, one of the few actual challenging things in Destiny, hit me up on Xbox One, gamertag: SciA
enjoy the game

I agree to an extent that the exploits are pointless. My main reason is that these fights....aren't that hard. There's something like three mechanics per boss and only one wipe mechanic in the whole raid. I too see that these hidden ledges and AI programmed to avoid AoE are apart of the game. A team with some sort of strat could position flanking snipers for the Templar or have someone tank the boss with AoE aggro instead of going the route they have. The point is the same point it's always been. To get to ilvl cap and stand around the common areas flexing nuts. Unfortunately, that's what most of these games are about; making other people jelly by your rank. The bigger issue, imo, is that the raids and strikes are way too easy and the loot drops are way to often. The word Exotic obviously has a different meaning in destiny. Something more along the lines of kind of hard to get, but not really and in case there's any nerd rage, here's an exotic vendor. Are you one of the lucky few that got a Suros or Icebreaker drop? Too bad. Now that the Suros has been nerfed into the ground it's useless anyway. I understand stroking the pvp nerds, but whose going to give me back all the time and Energies used to upgrade that yellow paperweight? But I digress. Raiding is supposed to be about assembling a cohesive team that overcomes certain obstacles to triumph against all odds. Destiny raiding has become more about the cheap exploit of the week. I agree that if a ledge on the side of the map is left in play, then there's a reason. If a boss is programmed not to stand in AoE, there's a reason. These games go through extensive testing in dev, alpha and beta after all. Bottom line, if your goal is to look supper badass brah, then you'll probably find a way to do it with the least amount of effort. If your goal is to play the game, you'll probably find people of a like mind.

Bungie decided to "fix" the Templar Strategy, but not the Atheon "tactic"? The Templar strategy wasn't even a cheat , but it baffles me that Bungie failed to realize that they should've fixed the Atheon "tactic." Bungie: Hey we got to do something about the Templar and Atheon. Me: Well seeing as how the Templar strategy is actually a tactic to clear the boss efficiently, I think the Atheon cheat needs to be addressed. It kind of ruins the fun in doing the raid. Bungie: Hmm you're right.. Me: Yes. I think it's the best option so then there should be no more complaining. Bungie: Sounds like it can really make the game better for EVERYONE. Me: Yes. My thoughts exactly. Bungie: But nah! We'll go with fixing just the Templar to please our SMALL group of crybabies within our fan base! We'll let our fans continue to push Atheon off the cliff. Besides, the Vex is going to get nerfed anyway HAHAHAHA! Me: But- Bungie: Our crybabies need to be cared for and tended! If they "ask" for a nerf, we'll give them a nerf! Our actual true players will just have to learn and adapt to these changes. Me: But Bungie, don't you see that you are only pleasing a small portion of your fan base? If you keep this up, there will surely be a lot of people leaving Destiny! Bungie: Nah! We need to make this game better for them! Me: But- Bungie: The patch will go live tomorrow. So tonight, everyone needs to enjoy the last bit of fun till then! Me: But I- Bungie: oh btw, we've been getting a lot of request to fix the Arc Blade, I think that will be going on our next Patch :) Me: ... *dies*

First of all. Atheon is being Instructed to Avoid AOE Damage which Makes him back off and The Templar Who cares?

Edited by ManBearPigIets: 10/13/2014 11:14:21 PMI want to get to 30 so that I can actually play it on hard. I was planning on doing this through raid gear from the normal raid, which is quite easy to do for our group, yet we have 27's and 28's and have not been able to make it past the templar on hard. From what I can tell, there is no difference between the normal and hard raid gear, other than appearance. People who are able to play it on hard also get 3 other boss loot rewards througout the mission, if you have a regular group you beat it on hard with then you should obviously keep doing that, it's the better choice. Is your problem simply that you haven't been able to find a good group who can play through the whole raid on hard?

Edited by Orthus: 10/13/2014 10:38:48 PM
instead of using game exploits to beat the Templar and Atheon.
Bungie has not come out and ever said what is and what isn't the right way, they have only given vague objectives like defeat the boss. Now players are using the game mechanics to their advantage, however this doesn't mean using the advantage is against the rules of the game. Simple put if the devs give you the option to find different solutions to problems by using different game mechanics. That just means the devs succeeded at making a difficult game and not making a punishing game. For example you are allowed to go to that platform in the Templar fight.(no invisible wall was placed to stop players from going there.) And the atheon fight, He avoids sustained damage attacks (certain grenades), and smart players will use this to control the boss .(this wouldn't be an issue if he didn't have that AI protocol.) Generally speaking game mechanics are being exploited(made full use of) to find non-standard solutions to the encounters. Now this may not be an issue if the devs are going for a dark souls style of letting players find solutions to fight bosses, vs a WOW approach where they nerf or patch any non-standard solution.(class stacking, or using certain buffs against bosses by kiting mobs from other fights into the boss room to later steal that mobs buff) This is a good video regarding this discussion (the dark souls example primarily): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea6UuRTjkKs
