You do realize that the game content isn't on the disc, it's on the bungie servers.

No, the content (3D models, audio, textures, etc) are ABSOLUTELY on the disc. You honestly think you could stream that stuff every single time you play the game? That stuff is why discs even exist. Modern AAA games are over 10GB in size usually. Those files are absolutely on the disc.
