I know there are numerous posts about this already, but the more feedback they see, maybe Bungie will do something about it.
Now to my opinion:
First, I am calling BS on anyone who says the raids will be too challenging for a PUG. I have ran Hard Mode in numerous MMO's with PUGs without issue. It just takes communication (although, this seems to be lacking in Destiny as well, but that is another topic). Sure you will get a bad run from time to time, but that happens with a core group too. Someone is just off their game. And I will call BS on anyone saying "the raids will be harder in Destiny". If the rest of the game is any indication, it won't. Hell, the strike was soloable.
Second, not everyone has 5+ other friends available. Personally, out of the friends I have on PSN, I think 1 has a PS4. Not quite enough to form a raid. And since there is nothing social about Destiny so far, how does one get those other people? It's not like I can shout in the Tower.
Third, in relation to the second topic, since I don't have the required friends (gee Bungie, thanks for the hit to the self esteem), I have no chance to acquire the gear from the raids, putting me at a major disadvantage in PVP (this is assuming the Raid gear could be better then other gear). So why PVP if I am just going to be out-geared and mowed down?
Look, I am not anti-social and I would prefer to have a consistent group to run Raids with, but the fact is having 5 other friends on and who are playing Destiny is going to be rare for some of us. Making raids "Friends only" doesn't account for the Real World (I know, how dare I talk about real life!). What if 1 of my core group can't make it one night? Why couldn't we just pop us into Matchmaking for that last player?
That is all. Rant finished.

As a social game Destiny needs better social and group making tools. For people that don't want those tools, they simply don't need to use them. Some of the most awesome people I have met gaming were met in PUG's.
