Ok, so I know that Bungie said they were keeping the mutliplayer separate, but wouldn't it be cool if your team and an opposing team were going head to head in a game of Control on Mars, and in the middle of the game, you hear the announcer say "Incoming Cabal forces. This training mission has been terminated. This is now a field operation. Defend the Control Points against the cabal forces." And then both teams team up to keep the cabal off the objectives. Bungie could even use the TrueSkill system (or whatever matchmaking system they're using to match up evenly skilled players) to set the level of difficulty that the AI has. Personally I think it'd be fun and would help add to Destiny's "living, breathing world". What do you guys and girls think??
Edit: So the feedback I'm hearing the most of is about how to incorporate into the multiplayer in a way that retains its randomness, but is still worth it, even at an endgame level. Also there are some worries about the game beforehand, as it stood, who was winning and who was loosing... My thoughts were that it would be something that could only happen say once in every 500 games or so, and only when all players meet certain parameters (such as no one under level 15). This way it's super rare so it will never be bothersome regardless of who it happens to. Once the announcement comes up, the game ends, kdr, and win/loss is taken into account and loot is given out. Then there's 15-30 seconds of prep time until the first drop ship touches down. From here on all scoring is the same system as Destiny's normal PvE. Extra loot is given out too, with the team that won the multiplayer match earning even more loot. All In all though both teams would come out with gear that they'll almost immediately switch out their current gear for. Any other worries or concerns? Also thanks for the bumps, thumbs, and other various complementary gestures/phrases, you guys and girls are awesome!
Edit #2: So some more Feedback i'm currently getting here is that some people would rather it was either it's own separate playlist/gametype, or that it was an opt-in only type of thing, or that it would still be PvP, but with the added element of the AI. Lets take these one at a time because none of them really fit IMHO. Separate Gametype- That's simply taking a Public Event and making it a gametype. It also either eradicates the randomness of it or splits the community too much. Opt-In - So here people think that there should be a setting saying you're good for it, and thus not good for it by default. I personally don't like this as any time anyone doesn't want to, then no one playing with them can. I also see this being abused by players who feel that they've maxed out their characters, builds, and gear to the point where they don't need extra loot, who could just turn it off as a way to deny it to other players who could benefit from it in order to maintain a measure of superiority. Much better would be keeping it completely random and giving players a chance to retreat to orbit during the preparation phase, letting those who don't want extra loot to not be forced to play, while letting those who do want to continue and earn awesome loot do so unhindered. PvPvE- Now this one i don't particularly agree with not because it wouldn't work or it doesn't sound fun (because it would work and it would be fun) but simply because it doesn't fit Bungie's "living, breathing world". In a real world, allied forces would not continue training against each other in the face of an outside treat, which is what the idea is. They'd band together and fight the enemy off. Sure, it'd be chaotic, but remember that the halmark of bungie shooter skill is not the Cod/Battlefield ability to successfully navigate chaos, but the ability and team work to control the map itself, control the vantage points, the heavy weapon/ammo drops, the vehicle spawns, the player spawns! That's what makes a Bungie shooter feel like a bungie shooter and makes it stand out midst the plethora of shooters out there.
Another great idea by masterchief54 is to take my original idea one step further from just a defensive random event, to an offensive one, and this idea i really like a lot! Scroll down to his comment for details!
Once again thanks for the feedback, keep it coming! If you really like this idea then keep this thread alive and force bungie to take notice! Together, we can shape our Destiny!!

This is an awesome idea, and i think just a simple switch on or off in options would be fine so people wouldnt have to deal with going to orbit again and wait for the loading screen if they dont want to join the assault
-
Really good idea! Yes, it may interrupt games but that would be the point! In the real world, an army isn't going to stop attacking because their enemy is having a training exercise, so why should it be any different in Destiny?
-
I wouldn't mind creep style like each side has npc waves for their team constantly at each objective while both teams continue the match
-
I think that Titanfall has a good system with AI enemies mixing in with real players. Fills out the teams, makes the battles seem bigger, and helps players that are not that good at online multiplayer feel like they are accomplishing something. The enemy would depend on the Map location.
-
Very interesting, would add a spin to the Crucible. It may become a nuisance if it happens often, though with a bit of rarity it would be an incredible thing to shake up Crucible from time to time.

One of the best ideas I have seen pre-launch, and I love the seamless movement from PvP to a greater threat looming over the horizon. If this could factor into maps being either night/day (like enemy invasion points or guardian ambush spots being affected by map times) it would be even more interesting.

I like the idea!

Edited by flaming_axel-: 8/12/2014 2:44:53 AMI love it.

I like this idea, but IMO rather than have the teams work together they are still competing against each other but now the cabal as well...or have the cabal for a limited time during the match...say if the match is 12 minutes have the cabal drop in at a random point in the match for 3-4 minutes or until they are all killed....the back to killing each other...Keep the productive ideas rollin'...Good job OP

Why the F&*!CK do people always comment bump??

I'm not sure I can say yes enough to this. My only concern would be the weapon balancing that occurs in crucible. Would that turn off for the event where the stats in our gear will matter or will it stay balanced for pvp? I like the ide...no I don't I like the idea I love the idea of the random events in pvp. And now I'm gonna add my 2 cents. If people have a preference for it happening or not and then go by a percentage of people involved. 12 people say yes 0.5% 11 people say yes 0.4% 10 people say yes 0.3% ... 0 people say yes 0.001% or 0% And so on. So that it's still possible under most circumstances but people who don't want it have a reduced chance of being involved. Have the chance set at 0% for ultra competitive pvp like iron banner. Especially if it's gonna be time limited like in beta. Also I'd rather have the game end on the or enter a sudden death for a minute so there is a chance to either gear up for new threat or make final push to take the game.

I've been saying this forever one games !. No one ever wants to evolve multiplayer . Hope this happens

Only if you could switch it on/off

That is a Great Idea. Something to think about, "Incoming Cabal forces. This training mission has been terminated. This is now a field operation. Defend the Control Points against the cabal forces. Heavy ammo drop. I would like to do that. Ninpire, I like the way you think. TWCFTM

Bump the original idea

I dont know about some of the ideas you put in the edits due to feedback, but i think your original idea is by far one of the best ideas ive read on these forums hands down. I really hope Bungie can find a way to implement this sort of event in the future if it isnt in there at launch.
-
That would be great. They should do that on certain days or weekends for fun.
-
Great Ideas! Could you please read mine? I started a topic called New Ideas and Hopes. Please check it out! Thanks

I like this idea a lot.

This would actually really badass man!

The enemy of my enemy is my friend or at least until the alien invasion is over. Could be interesting when the alien threat is over and you hear original mission resumed and you happen to be in the middle of the other team. Sort of a oh crap moment. Here is another idea: when a team is 2000 points down and you die, you respawn with what secondary ammo you had, special ammo retained when 3000 points down. Could give you just a small chance to get back in the game when getting whooped by a superior team.
-
I think this is a fantastic idea. I like the taking into consideration giving extra points or whatever to whoever was winning. OR!!..... You get about 1 minute alert that an invading alien race (whoever it'll be) is incoming and so everyone starts fighting harder to win the match before they turn their attention to the invading ships. May help out with people complaining that they were winning and it ended all the sudden.
-
That's awesome

Ninpire, you've got some great ideas, they'd be awesome to see in game. What I'd want to see is something of a mix of Exploration/Crucible. Go into game world with a fireteam of 3-6, do beacon missions, kill some ads, public events, and all the other good stuff, with hotstile fireteams added into the mix.
