Why did Tango Team use life rounds against the Spartan-IIs during the Spartan Training Exercise on Reach?

Which one?

It's in Halo: First Strike, chapter 17. Chief Mendez makes the Spartans play with Tango Team for the seventh time. I believe they had to capture a flag. Anyway, after Red Team sneaks into their base and steals the flag, Tango Team opens fire. Kelly held up a brass 7.62mm round and remarked Tango Team used life rounds.

If I recall correctly, Tango was pissed they kept loosing to 8(?) year-olds.

Edited by Trevelyan: 6/29/2014 9:54:44 PMI believe they were around twelve. Doesn't really matter. But if they would accidentally kill a Spartan-II because they were pissed for losing, what would the penalty be? I always thought it was a little extreme for them to use life rounds.

Even to them, the SPARTAN-II program was highly classified. They had no idea what was at stake.
