So...symbols in Bungie games.
Halo doesn't really have a 'symbol.' Not the way Marathon does, or (it would seem), Destiny does. Sure, it has this, but that is just the O from the Halo typeface which, in terms of branding, serves as a logo, even though it isnt a symbol. Also, the Halo tyeface has no purpose internally to the Halo universe (at least in the games).
Myth, like Halo, has a recognizable font for the game title, but no single symbol of which I know.
Marathon had a defined symbol. It was brought back in CE with Guilty Spark and continued in the Halo universe. I have only dabbled in Marathon a little, and only after I found Bungie through H:CE. So, if a true Marathon person could answer: Does the Marathon symbol have a meaning within the Marathon universe, and, if so, what is it?
Now we have the symbol for the Destiny. And, like Marathon, it is a true symbol. We got it (along with a bunch of other symbols for the factions, or whatever they will be called) quite some time ago. As you can see in the screenshot above, taken from the E3 trailer, this symbol isn't only for marketing. It is a symbol inside the universe of the game.
So. What does the Destiny tricorn mean in the Destiny universe? It cant be the same as a faction logo, as it has to be totally universal for all guardians.
Was this hinted at / answered anywhere and I missed it? What are your thoughts?

There was some speculation that the three lobes of the tricorn represented the three classes or the three races, with the center column representing the tower, or possibly the traveler, or both together. However, Bungie has not officially commented on it.
