Okay. So I've had a hamster for roughly 3 - 4 years now. I've taken decent care of it, but I'll be the first to admit I could have done better. Today when I went downstairs to check on her she was laying completely still in front of her food bowl. At first I thought she was dead, but after I took her out and held her for a while I could feel breathing. I somehow managed to "nurse" it back to health, or whatever, and after shakily walking about for a bit she appears to be cleaning herself. She seems really confused though, and her equilibrium is kind of wonky.
What should I do? I asked my close friends who had Hamsters and she said I should probably just let this run its course because she's old, and if she dies then she dies, but I feel like maybe I should go to a Vets or at least do something.
I don't know what to do. I'm a terrible pet owner, perhaps it would be best to let it go.
Edit;
She seems fine for now, btw, that's why I feel like I have time to ask for opinions.

Vet. Don't let her die. Better safe than sorry.

Um yeah it's life might be coming to a close. I don't think they usually live that long.
-
I remember when I had a hamster. He died from a major infection in his sleep. I wonder how decomposed his corpse is.

3-4 years is a pretty long life for a hamster. She might just be getting old.
-
You're a necromancer, so if it dies, what have you got to worry about?
-
dont hamsters only live 3-4 years?
-
I love how everyone is referring to her as 'him' even though OP made it quite clear their hamster is female.
-
My hamster done this when he overheated. Give him plenty of water and a lil spray. If it continues, go to the vet

Edited by Cobravert: 12/15/2013 4:20:15 PMNot to sound harsh, like some other people - Honestly, let it run it's curse. A hamsters life span is only 3-4 years. Since yours is in that area now, it is very likely this is the beginning of the old age symptoms. Not to mention, taking a hamster to the vet will likely be an expensive endeavor. All the vet is going to do is tell you their isn't anything they can do anyhow and charge you $100.00 to do so.

Make sweet, tender love to it.......
-
Maybe it wants a mate?
-
A hamster with dementia sounds like fun.
-
Or just take it to the vet?
-
You know what you have to do....
-
Vet for sure, kiss that hamster

Go to vet.
