If a mirror reflects every color perfectly how can we tell its silver?

Edited by Winy: 12/21/2013 12:50:56 AMMirror's aren't silver. Ignoring the whole "They're slightly green" thing that is the result of our imperfect mirrors, a theoretically perfect mirror is whatever color it reflects. Vsauce has an entire video on this question.

Aren't they just really big cameras?

Mirrors aren't silver, they're slightly green. If you get a couple mirrors to infinitely reflect each other it just looks like a huge green hallway.
-
They reflect every colour perfectly except green (unless you have a perfect mirror but you probably don't).

They're not silver, in fact mirrors are actually very slightly green.
-
It's sprayed silver to reflect light
-
Silver perceived as the color because artists, rather than take the time to make a realistic mirror, like to paint a light gray blob with some white ripples on it. Or because some mirrors are polished metal.
-
We don't have a material that can perfectly reflect light.
-
If something reflected light perfectly then in theory it would become invisible...
