Who doesn't want a hero of some kind? However I think that it shouldn't be as simple as the perfect protagonist always succeeding, always knowing what to do, and never suffer some sort of loss. I think there should be weaknesses, hurdles, tragedies, hardships, and losses they suffer. That will make for a more unique blend of characters regardless of whether they are good or evil. It would take a little more work to do that but the character becomes more relatable and human to the reader, which will help its chances of being read.
