So, this guy was running tours of N Korea as a front for spreading the word of God.
He was captured and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for attempting to subvert the government of North Korea via religion.
What are your thoughts on this? He is an American citizen, being held in N Korea, and will likely be staying there for 15 years, until he dies, or until the diplomats can secure his release.
Now, to play the devil's advocate, how do we feel when people come to our country trying to spread their religion and religious laws? While we don't jail them, don't we still persecute them?
Now, to play the devil's advocate, how do we feel when people come to our country trying to spread their religion and religious laws? While we don't jail them, don't we still persecute them?
Not everyone persecutes foreigners for their religions; on the contrary, I think open-mindedness is on the rise here in the States. We certainly don't have an equatable response to the harshness that anti-religious governments do. In short, I think North Korea is overreacting, and I would say that to any nation that responds in a similar way to any religion.

To play the "devils advocate" he went over their and broke their laws. He is liable. Like if someone goes over here and breaks our laws, but claims they're doing it under shariah law (example) it's still illegal and they're persecuted.

Edited by Kaka MartyCake: 8/30/2013 5:50:20 PM
The North Koreansupreme court in April found Bae guilty of carrying out "serious crimes" against the government.
Because North Korea has such a respectable court and non biased legal system, I am going to trust their judgement. (Sarcasm) Also i do not understand your last paragraph op. Example?

Well he did go there to purposely and knowingly break their laws.

I'm surprised. I thought you guys would have found this more interesting than this. Oh well.
