When should the next Metal Gear take place?
Originally, Kojima planned on MGSV taking place during World War II, focusing on the story of The Boss and the Cobra Unit single-handedly winning World War II. This sounded very bad ass, but apparently Kojima didn't want to direct the project himself and his staff weren't prepared to do such a heavy project without him, so MGSV became MGS: Rising which eventually became MGR: Revengeance.
This setting is still completely on the table, but I've thought about a number of different time periods the next Metal Gear could in theory take place. I really like the idea of a game during the Mercenary War though, since it is relatively unexplored turf and it would lead nicely into a Metal Gear 2 remake. Plus, the concept is just bad ass - the greatest mercenaries from all over the world come to Zanzibar Land to fight off the last remnants of the Soviet Union. I can't think of any other period of time better to do a co-op open world Metal Gear title, and the country itself has a variety of different types of geography ensuring diverse gameplay experiences.
Anyways, what do you guys think? What do you want next after MGSV?

I'd like a game that occurs after MGS4 but without the forty minute cutscenes.

2 RepliesEver since I completed MGS3 I've wanted a Metal Gear Solid based on The Boss and the Cobra Unit during WWII. All we know is that she was in Normandy and she apparently led the Allies to victory, but nothing more. Although we might not have Metal Gears or such, the threat of nuclear weapons could perfectly exist. The [url=http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law]-godwinslaw!-[/url]'s were developing the atom bomb, but were stopped before completion (as far as we know) when the Allies took France. It could be a great threat and fall within Metal Gears ideology since the series is really against nuclear weapons. I wish this could come true one day, maybe not as a main Metal Gear Solid game, but as a spinoff or something of sorts. It would be amazing to see the Cobras back in their prime in the variety of environments WWII was. Sneaking as the Boss in the Ardennes during the winter.... C'mon. Could also explain more about the Philosophers and such. That said, I would also love a remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. Which ever would come first would be greatly appreciated. As long as the other comes out as well, of course.

1 ReplyRemake of both Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, combined. Not much happens in the first Metal Gear, so it could probably just be a shorter opening chapter (like the Tanker in MGS2, but longer), with the events of Metal Gear 2 making up the majority of the game. Also, maybe some additions to connect it to 3, PO, PW and V. Not sure if I'd want it to be a remake in terms of gameplay or not.
