Lol I was abbreviating my answer so I didn't write a whole chapter on the subject. I was attempting to underline that in science, when a theory can be reproduced and verified by other parties it can be reliably counted as a truth. On the other hand, (only [b]one[/b] example) the theory some religions have of 'prayer' and god/gods hearing and acting on it [u]can not be proven either way[/u]. This applies to the OP question as a supporting argument. However, if you have a different opinion/theory/hypothesis I would be happy to hear it. Note: I'm of the opinion that if you can't understand me, I haven't explained myself properly. I would appreciate if your non-comprehension manifests in the form of a question, not taking a tiny portion of my post and making a rash and general assumption. Assumptions are a sign of sloppy logic.

That whole post was not necessary. My reply wasn't a product of misunderstanding, it was just that your statement was blatantly false and I pointed it out. There's no need to go on a tangent.

I don't have a subjective idea of a scientific theory. Just the definition. "A well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of knowledge that has been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation."

For the average layman, scientific theories might as well be truth.

I would suggest that there are no 'average laymen' humans all operate using the scientific method. It's how babies learn to walk: observing the world around us (observation), thinking how to replicate or expand on it (theories), then proving by doing (evidence). Poor example I know, but I could have used cavemen with fire, farmers with the seasons, or a biologist in a lab. The scientific method is the [b]only true[/b] human invention. Some just chose/are able to study it further in specifics, and call themselves scientists.

I guess you could argue as long as a theory is applicable, it might as well be truth, but that would undermine the field.
