Halo has had some pretty memorable lines over the past 11 years, what are some of your favourites?
"You're being kidnapped, young Manipular. The humans have to come as well. Apologies to all."
~ The Didact, Halo: Cryptum. This line just made me love the Didact as we see a slightly more humorous side to him as a character, he just says it like it's nothing in the face of imminent danger.
"We've got Jackals in the courtyard!
~ Johnson, Halo 2. Not sure what it is about this line that makes me like it so much, but it just sticks out as one of Johnson's best lines.
"Welcome home, John."
~ Cortana, Halo 4. One of my favourite moments in the series as I witnessed the departure of a character I've known and loved for 11 years and the profound effect it had on John.
"You are what you dare."
~ Bornstellar, Halo: Cryptum. This was almost like a mantra for the young Forerunner and was implemented really well in developing him as a character while showing what motivated him.
"There are those who said this day would never come, what are they to say now?"
~ Prophet of Truth, Halo 2. Everything and anything that Michael Wincott said in this game was just awesome, dat gravelly voice...
"'One last fight, demon. You will die and we shall reopen the Silver Path'.
'Die?' Kurt laughed. 'Didn't you know?' he told the Elite 'Spartans never die.'
Kurt turned his gauntlet face-up and pressed the detonator."
~ Ghosts of Onyx. A whole novel of getting to know Kurt, one of my favourite characters, and he goes out blowing up an entire planet and wiping out legions of Covenant forces.
Soon the great journey will begin. But when it does, the weight of your heresy shall stay your feet. . . and you shall be left behind.
I just love the imagery this line evokes. The delivery, the metaphors. THIS is what got me into Halo, was hearing that line at the beginning of Halo 2.
She said that to me once, about being a machine.
Loved the delivery, the lead up to it, the way it reflects the character. This is the moment John became Human. Honorary mention to Didact's dialogue in Halo 4. It's a little mixed, but I just love saying it in Bane's voice.
