In my head, I'm considering your story as Canon, as it fits well with the Halo Story ( With the exception of Thel'Vadamee being a Supreme Commander in 2530, he was only a Major at the time, 2 years after the glassing of Madrigal.
Well, this is more like 2532 (Eridanus II was indeed first glassed in 2530 but in the context of this story it was only a partial glassing as with Harvest, and so the humans thought they would be safe to live there as they believed the Covenant wouldn't return; in 2532, Xatan'ee is finishing the job), but I see your point. I'll try and work something out.
Another thing I noticed this isn't really a problem though is that you make the Covenant feel nearly the same morally as Humans, such as willingly surrendering, no religious zeal etc.
I personally like your style of making the Covenant feel more human, although this shouldn't extend to the entire Covenant forces. If there were Covenant who had surrendered on a planet, the Covenant wouldn't have come back to help them, they would have glassed the planet with them on it. Humans to the majority of the Covenant were Vermin to be exterminated, not equal fighters who were fought in equal warfare.
I personally like the way you have it, as it makes the Covenant seem like they are fighting for the prophets out of fear and that they are not so different from Humans, but it would be nice to see some of the Covenant religious "zealous" fervency in the future.
