Thats a crazy statement. All the hardcore PvPers i knew in D1 have long left D2. The one thing they wanted in D1 as a comp mode, and pinnacle weapons didnt exist then...although I guess trials weapons/gear for flawless were tamer versions. Even then most their perks were tailored to trials. Having pinnacle weapons that are tied to, or have their perks tied to the activities their intended for would save lots of trouble Id bet most of the use them weapons get is in quickplay and thats why Bungie have nerfed them. This couldve avoided it. The edge in comp is important and in quickplay it shouldnt be a factor, let alone motivate people to get them handcannons to make pub stomping easier imo.

There are hardcore pvpers playing D2. But true Pvpers wanted some sort of ranked playlist. I think the difference now is, one it's 4v4, and second and most important it's missing elimination and a lot of people dislike Countdown and Survival. 4v4 has turned out to be shit in Destiny. Many who asked for 4v4 because Halo was 4v4 have found out 6v6 is better and 3v3 for smaller games seems better because one person can carry. Thats far harder when it's facing 4 opponents. It also means it's harder for one solo player to effect a game. And Countdown and Survival just aren't that fun. I also think sure people offered that argument that "there should be high level rewards for high achievement" and "the same people calling for nerfs were saying "It's ok if everybody can't get every weapon" and "I'm ok if Bungie breaks the sandbox, Remember Prometheus lens." Well personally i think that was a dumb idea but they broke the sandbox and and they made guns that everybody can't get and they gave high achievers a high caliber reward. I think that is simply a case of people asking for something thinking it was a good idea when clearly it was not. I think as comp is currently designed people would skip it. And keep in mind. The entire reason they added a Pinnacle weapon was to entice people into playing comp. Comp was empty before. And it's also why people go play quickplay once they are done. Cause control and clash and rumble are better game modes and funner to play. My thing is once you've introduced the weapons, said, "Hey if you spend the worst time you can have in Destiny ever playing comp you can earn this great weapon," well then if you then go "psyche, yeah that weapon's now out gunned by old exotic you get from a quest like last word" then you can expect a massive backlash. And people won't want to invest time in chasing your loot because Bungie has shown over these like 5 or so years that they will always always make that item you chased no longer relevant, year one armor, year one weapons, whatever.

True and its also worth noting the game isnt competitive or balanced at all, hence it has no real comp scene. Tbh most high tier pvp'ers i know abandoned D2 when it became clear it wouldnt expand on what D1 had, or resolve any of the issues that were stopping it being competitive. My mate used to carry a few of us through trials and got upto 13th in the world, he described it perfectly when he said why would you play D2 comp over CSGO, rainbow 6, Halo, overwatch...even Cod? Most the changes were forced for no real reason though I agree. I never saw anyone ever ask for 4v4 but saw people ask for dedicated servers daily. I think the bad launch and broken subclasses and weapons just drove away most the players hoping for a good comp scene, which is why the comp playlist is dead and most just pub stomp in quickplay.

And the ones you don't know are still playing.
