Destiny lost an amazing Titan last night

Last night the Dawnbreakers brotherhood and Destiny lost an amazing Titan. Deriss, aka Joshua Foley, was a military vet, Titan master class boss, Dawnbreakers admin, and information guru. Deriss joined our clan during Destiny beta days on Xbox One and has been a part of our clan ever since. Even when Destiny lost its light we still journeyed as a group of friends across many other awesome worlds until Destiny brought it back. Deriss you were our clan’s pragmatic leader and resident smart guy but we enjoyed every moment of your life you were willing to share with your brothers. Deriss took his life after facing many battles both inward and outward. If you see a loved one struggling don’t let them fight the darkness alone because we don’t leave fireteam members behind. Deriss.....Josh, although Destiny brought us together you’re presence and joy helped make us a family. We love you brother. Eyes up, Guardian.

  • Some people unfortunately have no common decency...as proven by some of the less than compassionate types that troll the internet. Sorry to hear that, op. Deep depression is not something to take lightly.

    • What is up with some people being rude? Someone died, someone close to them, and you want them to "get over it"? It sucks to lose someone close to you, be sure to remember the person he was, not the terms of death.

      • Hate to hear this and really sad situation. To all those in the comments who are emotionless and have no empathy please keep your comments to yourself in the future. Brother Deriss you will be missed. May your light be funneled back to the Traveler and you receive the boundless glory.

      • Sorry about your friend; if he truly was the man you make him out to be, then the world is lesser for his loss. It's easy to judge someone for committing suicide when you're standing on the outside but bad things happen to good people, no matter where they are, and sometimes the damage just doesn't heal.
Seriously? Posting someone's suicide on Bungie's forums? WTF? I have Bipolar Disorder and this sends a very negative message. I wonder if anyone here understands why? **If Bungie truly cares about Suicide they will remove this thread. This could have a very negative affect on someone who is on the verge of suicide. This should have been removed as fast as it was put up. Take it down before someone else has their story posted in these forums. This is a Trigger, for real.
~Manicmethod I was going to post this as a response directly to Manicmethod, but I figure it's something that a lot of people probably need to hear so I'm just going to post it in this comment instead. Pretending that bad things don't happen doesn't stop them from happening. Avoiding discussing bad things that happen just for the sake of sparing someone's feelings, if anything, only ensures that bad things will continue to happen. Increasing awareness can stop those things from happening, however, so long as the people who are aware choose to act. If Bungie truly cares about suicides, they'll keep this thread. I wonder if anyone here understands why? Spoiler alert: sad story ahead. >. >
One of the strongest men I've ever known is buried out in Arlington Cemetery. He was active military, Infantry, my squad leader, but it wasn't a bullet or a bomb that killed him. His life hit a rough patch and he started rolling downhill, but he never showed it. He never told anyone in our unit, and he never let his problems get in the way of his duties; he bore his burdens and "soldiered on". That's why I never said anything, even though I could see the signs when no-one else seemed to. Then again, maybe they just chose not to say anything as well. The increased drinking, the occasional slip ups where he let his frustrations show. I watched him crumbling, but I never said anything because I knew he was strong enough to pull through and I respected him enough to allow him his privacy. After all, everyone hits a rough patch in life, and he was one of the strongest people I'd ever met. He was coping, and while I didn't like the fact that he was drinking, I knew that a lot of soldiers took up drinking as a coping mechanism. Heck, when I got to my unit, the advice I got from multiple people was "start drinking". I am a man of many regrets; I've got my fair share of ghosts that I carry with me. One of those ghosts is the memory of watching one of the strongest men I've ever known being buried because he took up drinking to help cope with his depression and one night he got drunk and went for a drive. He died because he made a bad choice, I'll admit that, but that is a choice he might not have made if I'd chosen to speak up.
My condolences to Josh's clan, his friends, and his family. I lost a wife to suicide, and the impact on the living is soul crushing. Be strong and love one another. And please, if you are struggling, ask for help. Never give up. ""Even though in this world we may know grief and suffering, our dreams shall never die." And, Josh, godspeed and good journey. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I lived through the pain of Vietnam and the scars never completely heal. All respect for those who serve and sacrifice so we may be free.

                • RIP titan, but whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

A terrible tragedy! So sorry for your loss, rest in peace Joshua. I suspect that being a military veteran, Joshua suffered from PTSD. I too suffer from this terrible, dark illness and have been extremely close to the edge myself. It breaks my heart that the so called "honorable" beauracrats and the military industrial machine keep sending our young men and women into other countries to wage war on mining, oil and gas corporations behalf . These young men and women see things during that time that no human being should have to see and quite literally would make a billy goat puke! As a result quite a few of them come back home damaged. These people lay down their lives and are forced to wait in extremely long waiting lists to recieve the help that they so desperately need! For all the folks who can't possibly know what living with depression/mental health issues is like unless they have experienced it first hand let me quote this " The mind is a dangerous, frightening playground, don't go there alone" ! Also please remember that when a person asks for help they likely need help right away and more often than not are not able to get an appointment to see someone untill a later date. Unfortunately for many, that later date is too late. For people who want to help, please contact your local Mental health provider, I'm sure that a small donation would be appreciated and would go a long way in reducing those long waiting lists for help! It's the same for everyone who needs help, not just veterans ... On another note, just the fact that the waiting lists in most cases are so incredibly long says something about the state of the world we live in, some food for thought for everyone ! God Bless you Joshua !
