D1, first month or so. Picture it. Running the same Strikes over and over for Vanguard marks to get that sweet armor you wanted. One day, the vendors reset to new stock and that old armor is now GONE. Maybe you'll find A piece before the first DLC, which then makes it useless anyway.
But that's ok! Because as D1 went on, of course, new, cool looking stuff came out that you could EARN (and find, of course), and eventually they made it so you could bring up ANY piece to max level and look how you wanted...

But yet HERE WE ARE, in the "SEQUEL" for crying out loud, and I'm spending hours and hours and hours and hours and hours on Io, with the most annoying NPC in the game screaming in my ears, doing the same two public events over and over and over, finding chests "too fast" so they stop giving me tokens for a while, and STILL not getting the piece I want.
(rant over)
So how do you fix this? You do what D1 did. Instead of uselessly padding the gametime by making EVERYTHING RNG, you let us EARN things. Let me turn in 50 Io Tokens for the piece of armor I want at 10 Power. Let me turn in 75 for the weapon I want at 10 power. Let me do what I did in D1 and just work for what I want, instead of making me beat my head into the wall while Nasally-Voice-McGee over there yells at me.
I get it, you want people to buy Silver. You've done a great job at making that unnecessary, despite that. The "microtransactions" here are very well done. I get that it's RNG there, it makes sense from the business side, and it really isn't so bad.
BUT HEAVEN HELP ME, IF I DON'T WANNA MURDER ASHER MIR FOR NOT GIVING ME MY MARK.
The game has enough content this time at launch. I'm not listening to "The Fallen" every fifteen minutes as I grind the same Strikes and kill Sepiks Prime every time I log in. I LIKE this one at launch. I can make new characters like I didn't bother to in D1 until way later on and I feel like I'd be replaying something worth my time. There's no need to pad game time by making everything, EVERYTHING, RNG! Eververse, fine. Makes sense. She's not outfitting you for war, she makes you look good. But if I walk up to Zavala with the heads of several high ranking enemies and go "I want that piece of armor," I really, HIGHLY, doubt that he would go "Hmm, sorry, take this quantum-entangled d20 and throw it on the floor to see what you actually get for your hard work." Just saying. D1 letting us earn stuff, even as frustrating as it was back then, is ACTUALLY a step UP from the current state of faction rewards.
tl;dr
D1 let us turn in faction specific currency for that faction's gear. D2 does not, instead handing out engrams that roll for what we want. Return the D1 system of earning gear, even if it has to be at 10 Power for gear you don't roll an engram for. Leave Eververse alone, of course, but factions should not be a source of frustration for the player.

Final bump for conversation. If no one wants to talk about it, no one wants to talk about it.

Bump for possible conversation. Kinda want to hear what others think...
