Not the best thing ever said. Nostalgia is alright. But it's not the best thing ever said.
Community is partly to blame. When the game came out, elitism began to emerge by asking fireteam members to join only if you have specific weapons and gear with you. That is not why Bungie created this game. Yes, the game becomes less taxing if you have certain weapons or gear with you. But the game could be totally beaten even without these certain weapons or gear. I didn't get the Gjallarhorn until the last quarter of year 1. But it did not stop me from playing and beating all the end game content. Imagine beating Skolas without Gjallarhorn. Imagine how hard trying to get a team or join a team for Skolas and you don't have that gun. I can say I did that. That to me is how you become Legend.
Becoming "Legend" in this game is not about the gun or having a Gjallarhorn. It's playing and finishing it even though you don't have it.
I got the Vex Mythoclast on my first hard mode run, but I never used it to finish a raid or even use it in PvP. I prefer other guns to use.
I used to invite anybody in my team to do Crota. Even the guys that don't have tracking rockets. And we would still beat Crota on hard. And I don't even have Gjallarhorn at that time. It's about people who wants to do it even if the odds are against them. If everyone works together as a team and sometimes willing to follow suggestions that have worked before, that's how you become "Legend" in this game.
Becoming "Legend" is not just about getting stronger because you have a Gjally or a Mythoclast. It's also about doing better without them.
