So a fellow Guardian named Boobel commented this on a post. I just wanted to post it.
"There wasn't a singular thing that ruined the original Destiny experience. It was a culmination of multiple errors.
Year 1 was good. Like if you played the alpha, and the beta, and year 1, you are aware of the reason for the anger that fills the forum now.
A lot of folk may dismiss this, but if you did it, you know.
You had a nightfall that when you were launching in, you were a tad nervous. Because you knew you could spend an hour or so trying, just to lose it all very fast, and be booted to orbit. The sense of achievement when you completed it was excellent. The rewards were good too.
You would run the raid, and be ecstatic to receive the VOC.
Then, you do Atheon over, and over, and eventually, the Vex Mythoclast dropped. And the grind just is SO worth it. You'd relive the moment with destiny pals when they saw you had it.
Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded.
We saw parts of the cosmodrome that were locked away. DLC. But already on the disc.
Then year 2 arrived. And it started to feel like the best parts of the game were slowly being removed. We were told by Bungie that we were playing the game wrong. They had perks on guns, and when we used them effectively, all within the realms of the game, we were told we were using them wrong.
Then we started to feel the affects of nerfing. Guns which we had worked so hard to get, became useless. The variety of weapons available was still big, but nerfs forced players to use very few. auto rifles started to fade, our game was being directed by the requests of the supplementary PvP aspect of the game.
Updates came that meant previous content we paid for, was made useless. Game modes that are supposed to encourage team work in pve were forgotten. You aren't allowed raid matchmaking but, we shall matchmake you a pvp session with 11 people from all over the world resulting in a terrible experience.
We won't matchmake nightfall, because you might get someone who is bad. That's better than no matchmaking right.
Then, we got told previous gen was holding back vault space.
Then, luke Smith tells us we are playing his game wrong, but we're going to throw money at the screen anyway. And there's way more to kingsfall.
0,4% auto rifle.
What's VOG again? Who is Crota?
Trials further toxicated the game. Bungie based game updates on trials. YouTube streamers. The community was ignored. The game grew towards trials, bungie pandered to this, pve got a few more stabs in the back.
Lag switching. Bungie didn't seem fussed.
We became iron Lords, and we were happy for a bit. That mountaintop. That raid. But it fizzled. More nerfs. Friends list didn't show Destiny as much.
The last gen vault space limitations seemed a lie. It didn't increase when last gen wasn't included.
Shotguns. Matador. Heavy ammo. Special ammo.
Then Age of Triumph.
Bungie thank us for participating in a 3 year beta, and begrudgingly make year 1 relevant again with some new year 2, but on their terms.
Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead.
Destiny was failed a lot on petty little stuff, stuff that folk meddled with, that was in reality, doing ok.
And there wasn't more to kingsfall.
If Destiny 2 can avoid the blindingly obvious mistakes that happened over the last 3 years, they could have a fantastic game in the making."
Edit: Thanks for all the replies guardians!
Edit 2: Whoa this is trending. Never been up here before, and it wasn't even my own words lol
Edit 3: Number 1 trending. Wow. Thanks for everyone who liked and commented!
Edit 4: Thank you all for the amazing posts! I'm glad people know how good this game could be. How good it should be.
UPDATE! NEW WORDS BY BOOBEL!!
"Thanks for highlighting my post.
The fact that so many other players are in agreement does give credit to what I said.
I expected people to say I was wrong etc, however we are entitled to our opinions.
Maybe these are the people who forget that the game was never sold as being a pvp game. They clearly told us it was a pve game, with optional pvp.
We also were told that a day one weapon would be relevant to whatever direction the game took. They aggravated people by completely doing a u turn on this, leaving many stuck at 170.
If people feel it necessary to repost what I said, this to me just gives further evidence we agree.
It's then funny to note that people said my
observations of Y1 is the result of rosetinting, and I was wrong. I'm that wrong, that they are making raids relevant again, bringing back older weapons. They also have made AR better again, after the pvp nerds rendered them useless.
It is also funny that people are assuming I'm wholly praising year 1, when I simply listed, in time order, things that I remembered from the top of my head. All of the points I made, weren't borne from negativity. They actually happened.
So if you choose to focus on one aspect of my comments, rather than the whole post, you'll fail to see I simply pointed out what was done incorrectly, or things that were done that resulted in a poor experience.
I am sure a lot of people are happy with the game how it is now, I merely gave my opinion on things that actually happened in the game, that left many of us disappointed."
Edit 5: OVER 500 UPVOTES! Dang, is this a record or something? Someone has to know.
Edit 6: Over 600 upvotes. Dang
Edit 7: 700 UPVOTES BABY!

Played through the original story recently and it was definitely a lot harder than the new stuff. Pve needs lovin

Not only are you piggybacking with someone elses opinion thats not even your post, you are answering every comment too. Nice.

Just from looking at your name, what's the best titan you've built?
ion??
Wow, perfect. I have a question now. I saw this:
Oh you want elemental fatebringer? Thats fine, but it'll take an exotic slot instead.
Really? So any elemental primary will take up an exotic slot now? I was very excited about the new, free DLC. But now, I'm pretty sure my extended vacation from Destiny will continue.
-
The fanboy is strong with this one.
-
Never saw the problem with elemental primaries in the first place! Iv used far less weapons since then change than before....
-
Well said
-
I stopped reading when OP said Y1 was so good. Y1 grind made the game horrible...Beyond horrible to play. Story mode was utter trash. Raid was good...But boy those strikes and story mission were nonsense. Anyone that forgets the RNG nonsense is living in a dream world. No amount of grinding would let me get a specific exotic...Utter random luck.

Good post.

I've only been playing about a year and a quarter but I totally understand how this game has changed from vanilla. Right now, everything I get doesn't feel worked for or like much of an achievement, and most of the exotics seem unexotic. The amount of engrams that decrypt into higher ones now is ridiculous too. Feels like they're just having a yard sale for everyone who hasn't gotten everything yet. I still want to work for it damnit.

Great post. I would add the fact that we where told it was a 10 year journey, something different from cod,mw,battlefield etc. Turned out it's the same format. Just puts a cloud over the whole experience. Finally, I just wonder if it's them blundering along from one plan to the next not knowing where there going, or they know what there doing but manipulate the community for maximum profit?

Edited by DeusFever: 3/24/2017 8:20:34 PM
Year 1 felt relevant. There was an end game gun we chased. We felt rewarded.
RNG means that Year 1 felt relevant for some Guardians and felt like a total -blam!-ing waste of time for others. #forever29. Gjallarhorn never dropping. It was maddening. My favorite moment of Year 1 was buying all level 31 gear on day one of The Dark Below. Suddenly I was one of the highest light Guardians in my clan and RNG had nothing to with it. That's rewarding. If Destiny 2 takes us back to Year 1 levels of frustration, then Bungie can expect another Year 1 level of exodus. The reward mechanics are better now than they have ever been and Bungie should continue moving forward.

Lol "best thing ever said"
lol
I have to point out flaws that you really shouldn't have necroed or brought up considering they've been debunked and proven that many times over; 1.) There was no "locked away, but on disc" segments. This has been debunked countless... countless, countless times. Leave it dead before you start another giant hate fest. 2.) Leaving last gen behind doesn't mean they can increase Vault Space, and here's why; Destiny(1) was created for Legacy and Current consoles. Because of this, the Engine Bungie could use to design the game was an older and more limited engine, due to having to be compatible with the 360 & PS3. Because of this, there were much more strict memory and performance boundaries than if they had an engine that could've just ran on Current gen alone. Yes, they dropped Legacy consoles, but that doesn't mean the Engine is suddenly a new one. They cannot replace the engine or overwrite it without having to rebuild the entire game from scratch. This is why they cannot increase Vault Space anymore. With the memory limitations, they would have to remove something drastic or reduce the quality of textures/meshes within the game.

Been playing since early in year 1. For me, this is one of the best games I have ever played, even with its perceived and real problems. I have spent well over 5,000 hrs. running around this playscape and have enjoyed ever minute immensely. I have felt well rewarded, once that gun or armor dropped, but have also experienced the forever 26(not 29 because I was excluded from VoG due to lack of ghally), then stuck at 31 because CE just wouldn't drop a chest piece. There have been plenty of frustrations, but I wouldn't trade a moment. PVP is a hot mess, but I still enjoy it as well. Looking forward to what D2 will offer.
-
Someone from Bungie probably has seen this. Ignoring it? More than likely.

This, is not how commas work. I know op didn't write this, but it still irks me

Bump, this is so true, amen

Edited by CatMan: 3/24/2017 7:26:23 PMBump, but guardians need to specify what was fun about year one to them. Year one wasn't the same for everyone. It wasn't at its best for me. Pros:(For me) Weapons felt balanced (for the most part). Destiny was new, different than what I was use to, and felt epic(...I was a noobie). Controls were/are outstanding Parts of nightfall, strikes, and Raids were fun but weren't rewarding (more in this later). Loot caves. PvP and PvE marks. Marks weren't use across all guardians. (I think it was) 21 strange coins a week. Rained MoL (wish I had kept them...) Etheric light HoW balance Xur Cons(the game, players, and bungie): Lack of tools for socializing in "social spaces" You could run that night fall for an hr to get dick (nothing). Or fail, returning to orbit with random's who quit leading to having to find another team at the tower or say -blam!- it all together. No story...and some of the strikes were too similar. Hold point, defend ghost, mission ends without guardian saying anything. Boring character/interesting character never heard from again/terrible acting (before lfg) Raids were fun, but were hard to get into, and the few times I did get into a raid people rage quit, bosses lagged a lot, people just raged the whole time, and it wasn't fun at first. It wasn't until HoW that I found LFG and was able to find groups that played like me. Not much has changed there in yr3. Lack of matchmaking or OMM Ridiculous bounties Year one RNG was terrible for a lot of players. Only people with good RNG say it was good and they don't know dick. Forever 29 Bungie sucked at communicating There weren't very many helpful players, most didn't want you having the same stuff they had even though there wasn't much to begin with (lol), and when do did get that amazing weapon "you didn't earn it" Leads me to my next point... ...People keep saying exotics felt exotic because they were hard to get, NOOOOO. They felt exotic because of their exotic perks. They don't feel exotic now because of the great nerf war that we are losing. Give up that "everyone shouldn't have it" crap. Bungie destroyed anything good they had going for the game. Its kinda strange, where bungie failed they've improved, and where they were good the are failing (balances, ect). ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I was a lone wolf in year one. Didn't know about lfg, felt ridiculous messaging people at the tower for help and getting no response, and only had one friend playing destiny in the beginning. So there were a few times I quit playing. Especially when it came to EGC. Now, I play solo but I'm not much of a lone wolf because I use the tools amazing players made (LFG). What kept me coming back and why am I still here? There were a few guardians who helped me thought-out the years, taught me how to play and helped me out a lot. Thanks to those players and to the helpful player everywhere. And though they no longer play I appreciate and love the game because of the helpful players. There were a lot of time where I paid it forward and helped players because if the help I received. Now if I could only get to the lighthouse one time( hint hint). The game (for me) is a bit more fun now that I know what I know, Bungie/the game has improved believe it or not, and I have fun playing when I am playing. Right now I feel rewarded playing, I can play what I want to play and have fun. It wasn't like that in yr1 for me. If you knew in year one what you know now would you still say year one was funner? I don't think so. I don't think people remember everything about year one tbh. Some played with friends and made friends and that made it fun, but year one was a different experience for me.

This is still only and opinion. None of the s is factual. Destiny was never ruined or ever a bad game. All you people think this game is life. There are other games out there. It's okay to say you're putting down a game because you're bored of it or tired of playing it. In fact with every dlc the game got better and better. The final package is actually amazing. You and your friends perspectives are what have been ruined. Destiny is great you just need to understand that 1 video game will not always quench your hunger for fresh content. Play other games and then come back when you're ready. It's not a bad thing lol it's totally normal.
-
All this and I am still preordering D2
-
This is basically and chronological timeline of this whiny communities complaints. Some valid and a lot just people being pathetic
-
Y2 was the best DLC to date. It had the best story and you got a sense they were starting to understand how to make the game great. Unfortunately, ROI was pretty bad and we went back a couple steps. Here's to a good Y4. I think we should keep our expectations fairly low.
-
Great post. But you forgot about the removal of primary burns that too the fun out of the game. NOT one person asked for that. You never take fun out of a game. You did and lost millions of players.
