The inspiration for this idea came from the youtuber who created the video above, he has plenty of well structured lore videos and will do the Lysander lore much more justice than this post.
Lysander's gift. A little secret in the world of Destiny that was recently released with the new Dawning live event, giving the player a Sparrow when they discover the gift. What does the gift mean? Why has someone named Lysander given us a gift anyway? How does this gift relate to the Dawning and maybe furture events? Let's look into that shall we?
TL;DR- Lysander's Gift hints to an upcoming Civil War or Faction War in the city.
Who is Lysander and what is the Concordat?
-To discover the purpose of this gift, we have to first understand who gave us the gift in the first place, Lysander.
Lysansder was the leader of a now disbanded faction kown as the Concordat. After the horrific time period in the city's life span known as the Faction Wars, some specfic factions were allowed to take residense in the tower and be part of the government of the city known as the Consensus. Now the Consensus is made up of the the Vanguard mentors ( i.e. Ikora, Cayde-6, and Commander Zavala), the city factions( i.e. New Monarchy, Dead Orbit, and Future War Cult), and the Speaker as the head of the Consensus. The Concordat faction was one of the factions accepted into the Consensus, and thus given an area in the tower to recruit Guardians into their faction even with Lysander's disapproval of the Consensus.
This disapproval eventually lead to Lysander planning to overthrow the Consensus and establish a new form of government in the tower. This attempt ultimmatly failed, and the Concordat faction retreated to the area we know as BannerFall. The map having the green Concordat banners and the Concordat insignia located on one of the two spawns of the map. The faction known as New Monarchy eventually attacked the Concordat faction at bannerfall, capturing Lysander and other high ranking faction members in the Concordat. Lysander and those who still follow him were exiled from the city and the Concordat faction lost it's spot in the Consensus to the faction known as Future War Cult. Lysander is now hidden outside of the city, slowly rebuilding the Concordat.
Fun Fact:
The other side of the map bares New Monarchy banners, next time you play on Bannerfall think of it as one team is New Monarchy and the other team is Concordat. Funny enough, the side with Concordat banners is said to be the worse of the two spawns with the other spawn being in the New Monarchy area.
How does this hint to an upcoming Faction War?
-Since we know who Lysander is and what the Concordat was, lets get into how his gift in the Dawning event hints to possible furture Faction war or even an attempt by Lysander to overthrow the tower's government.
I first got this idea of the Faction War from the grimoire card "Lysander's Cry", as it tells us that Lysander is plotting his return to the city and gathering Guardians in the Tower to support him. How is he gathering Guadians you may ask? Well, you know that gift that Lysander gave you? That is him attempting to gain your trust and support. We can see this from the item description of the Lysander's Cry sparrow as it reads:
Each Guardian wants something: greater speed, a rare weapon, a secret. Learn what it is. Use it.
This quote describes how Lysander is attempting to use our greed and desire for loot to gain our trust and to even attempt to gain our allegience with the Concordat faction.
Why would Bungie randomly include this secret, a new Grimoire card, and a new Sparrow if they weren't planning for it to be a hint for furture content? They know that the community has requested competition or a war between the factions for a while now. What better way to introduce this than to give us the idea that there may be members of the Concordat, supporters of Lysander in the Last City and even in the Tower that are plotting to over through the Consensus. This may be how Bungie finishes off Destiny, with a Civil War between those who support Lysander vs those who support the Consensus leaving the Last City open to an enemy attack. After all, as Shaxx claims, a Guardian's greatest threat is another Guardian.
Fruit for thought my fellow Guardians, have a nice day and I'm looking foward to what you think of my theory.
