i thought that too until i learned that counterbalance while turning the recoil vertical it also increases said recoil so you get more of a kick. this means it will actually kick harder making longer range shots harder to land in the critical area (head). this really only applies to grasp archetype and to a lesser extent hawksaw archetype pulses. fast rof autos and slow rof pulses still want counterbalance due to there stronger kick already.
it takes almost no getting used to to be honest with such minimal kick and high AA. even at range upper chest shots are almost all criticals due to high AA.

I haven't noticed any extra kick when testing mine with counterbalance on or off, it simply goes more or less straight up/down and doesn't deviate left or right at all.....

on what your clever dragon? ive noticed a larger vertical recoil with counterbalance on my weapons before. id suggest going in game and dont try to correct for recoil and test.

My Grasp has Counterbalance and Braced Frame and have no problem whatsoever with hitting crits
