can confirm that either killing an effected guardian(crucible) or claiming orbs generated by the infected can transfer the infection so far. one might assume 1 variant might be spread by buffs(song of flames/light of the pack/blessing of light?) not a guarantee but it does not pass instantly either by about 5 crucible kills(or just a melee or close up kill?) and with orbs/buffs may even be a percentage chance to contract(RNG) keep testing. also... any body on XBone have fortitude/glory/splendor? still need these on my character. I hypothesize these will have some effect upon RoI drop if they even last that long. (Ironic that we are all trying to contract Nargles....)
