Note you missed: Maya and co. created the exos specifically in order to use them in the device, then eventually made themselves into exos in order to enter the Vex Timestream.
(At least that's what I remember)
Cayde was her security guard and had a thing for her.

-Cayde-6, mission Cayde's Stash
He became an exo because his debt would then be payed off (he had a lot of debt) and the full story of the aftermath is in his journal.
I always thought Chioma actually died which caused Maya to enter the machine. Or was presumed dead.
Otherwise, interesting. I've always accepted that it was Maya as a fact, but this brings a new angle.
I've quoted the sources I can remember, but the rest I can't since my memory for thes ethings isn't great. Sorry to anyone who was interested
Edited by A Rising Wind: 9/14/2016 8:50:21 PMWe don't know that Maya and company created exos themselves. It was during that time but we don't know if that was part of Maya's project or not. And no, they didn't make themselves exos. What you are remembering is Vex 4, where the 4 scientist are using remote controlled mechanical frames while their bodies and minds are safely back at the academy behind a warmind firewall (think like the movie avatar) That is considered by many to be the exo precursor technology, but not exos Both Maya and Chioma are involved in that. And Chioma isn't dead. After Venus, Chioma and Maya went to work on other projects and have been apart a long time.
And Chioma isn't dead.
To be fair, you don't know that. All we know for sure is that Maya thinks she's still alive, (and writing to her frequently,) at the point at which she decides she's resigning and leaving Lhasa. After that, all bets are open until we get more content. It's just as likely Hyperion was flattened in the collapse.

I guess I should have clarified, she wasn't dead at the time Maya entered the device. Maya said Chioma was writing her every week. After that, we don't know. And it's hard to say how much time lapses between Maya's last entry and the collapse.

Exactly.
