I have the same problem. Not that i'm really bad, i am just average i think. My friends are pretty good and when i play with them it is just one big sweatfest. I really, REALLY feel that SBMM needs to go. They just need to implement ranked and unranked matches. Make the ranked playlist drop some different loot (not better or something). In this way you can play crucible with friends chilled out or on the edge of your seat. But i know it probably won't be here for at least destiny 2.
