I highly doubt you've been in IT for 15 years simply based off the fact that you said "wireless is bad"
The capabilities of wireless today would have little to no affect on the lag. Maybe 5-10 years ago, but not now.

The issue is the chip in the console, not the chip in the router

Put console on power save.. good to go... i do run a nighthawk.. but havent seen a wired connection since ps2
