Do auto rifles need a Buff?(VOTE)

I personally feel that slow rate of fire auto rifles need a SLIGHT base damage buff. They simply cannot compete with scout rifles, hand cannons, or pulse rifles. They're to popular and statistics are way better, making auto rifles very, very outplayed. The usage of auto rifles are VERY LOW, and I would like to see all guns equal in PvP. Feel free to LEAVE A LIKE on this post, I would love to see what the majority of the community thinks :D. I really want Bungie to do a little something to auto rifles so they are viable. NOT TALKING ABOUT HIGH FIRE RATE AUTO RIFLES. We all know about the "Doctrine Of Passing".

  • Dunno tbqh I just don't use the ArminusD/DoP archtype anymore since the nerf. Rendered obsolete by GoM imo. Not sure about AR's like Haakon's/Paleocontact, as I've never really used them. Really, really enjoy my Grim Citizen though. Hits hard, has a decent RoF and pretty damn stable. I would love to see some buffs for them, just not sure it's warranted.

  • I kind of agree, although my wife constantly gets high score with the vanguard auto. That ugly orange gun really shines in her hands. I don't know how she does it. I'm afraid if they buffed the low rate of fire autos even a little they would become way too op. I would love to see my shadow price get a buff though.

  • They need a small damage buff but doctorine of passing needs a nerf so exotic auto rifles can be great again

    • The lowest impact/highest (doctrine/grasp) RoF weapons of all primary types need a slight nerf. They're largely the only viable weapons. I think a severe range nerf would be most applicable. The low impact/higher RoF weapons (Nirwins) are in a good place. The mid impact/mid RoF weapons could use a bump. It would be nice if they could stagger more. The highest impact/lowest RoF weapons need a damage buff. I wouldn't mind if the highest impact weapons got a damage buff in exchange for a RoF nerf in addition to a significant stagger buff. Eg spare change should be a consistent two burst kill, but it would require extreme placement and strafing. Bungie needs to try to balance the archetypes towards a midpoint, rather than balancing them around the time to kill of the fastest RoF weapons.

    • I voted for balanced, mainly because a 'buff' or 'nerf' isn't what I think they need.High RoF's are in a great place, they support aggressive assault-style play action. The 88-8's are in an interesting place. I feel like they are generally more of a support weapon, meant to be used to back up or reinforce friendly fire, the exception being if they have a range perk. Add Send It or Rifled Barrel and they become more capable of standing alone; last IB, I only ran Monte Carlo, got high score on my third game, and averaged about a 1.6 -2.0 K/D. High impact auto's can be competitive, but it take good positioning and careful choice of engagements to succeed. I have done really well with a 93 stability Shadow Price before, and I have done terribly with it too: the difference is a minute change in how and when I chose to begin an engagement. All in all, I think they are competitive now, with the faster fire rate being in the best place. I also used to think they were no-skill guns, until I used one in IB. I came to realize the skill is in knowing the capabilities of your gun and being able to read the engagement. Aiming is a factor, but it's not insane. But if you don't know how to determine when it's a good idea to commit (and all auto rifle engagements are a commitment to a life or death fight), you will get pasted over and over again. I think the mid and low fire rate varieties probably need a tiny bump up, but I also think they could stay the same and be fine as well.

      • I feel like they need a slight buff but not much. I've been using Zarirnaea-D—which I know isn't the greatest rifle for Crucible— however I have a lot of fun using it in PvE and in PvP can usually get a good 10 solid headshots right off the bat even at medium distance only to be taken out by a quick two shots from Mida. Having said that, I may be in the minority here, but I would think Mida needs a bit of a nerf, but that's just me (and I'm really not that good at Crucible).

        • Even moderate RoF Auto's are still competitive. Haakon's Hatchet, Righteous VII, Gunsmith Suros AR with moderate impact. High impact AR's and PR's both need a buff though. Suros Regime is a joke. It's only competitive if you use spinup, and most of the time you will get killed using it anyways. It should go back to the days when it could hit for 45-47 damages precision while using focused fire.

            • Potatoes (those who can't aim which is why they use autos in the first place) say they need a buff. They need a bullet hose to help them track their target. by the time they find their mark they have sprayed half the clip, unless they're using doctrine which doesn't require reloading ( jk about the last part).

              • Haakons Hatchet needs a slight damage and range buff. It has a very slow ttk and with rifled barrel the damage falloff is ten feet. I can't hit for sh!t with this gun and they need to buff it slightly.

              • I think they are in a good spot. Low impact like doctrine and mid impact like hakons hatchet are pretty good you just need to use them at the proper ranges. The slow rate like shadow price are not that great in pvp just like pulse rifles those 2 types need a buff without affecting the other types.

              • I used Haakon's Hatchet plenty during this IB, and it was the weapon that held it's own the best throughout that entire grind. I feel like they have the medium AR's in the sweet spot and the low impact AR's right where they need to be. If they gave 1-2 points of damage back to high impact AR's they'd be usable again.

                • I think medium and slow RoF auto rifles need to be buffed to at least high RoF standards. Doctrine is fairly balanced right now.

                • They definitely need a buff because they do almost the exact same damage as the middle impact fire rate archetype yet fire noticeably slower. I'm not talking about a huge buff but maybe if you land most of your headshots it should take one bullet less

                • I use Red Spectre, it's not awesome and I can get outgunned by many others but when doing the bounties that need ar kills it's pretty fun to use...also I have no doctrine so that might have to do with me using RS...

                • Why? They're noob weapons. They don't reward precision or timing, you just spray the trigger.

                    • I wish they could just torch the meta, reset balancing back to the alpha state, and use what they've learned to tweak it because pre-launch to early Vanilla was to me the time the Crucible felt the most universally viable. It also helped that at that time they hadn't driven away the casual playerbase yet; now all that's left are the guys who dive into the meta headfirst and live and breathe PVP. There's no going into Crucible to just enjoy yourself anymore because one guy in the lobby will have a god roll Grasp that tears you to pieces. Pulse rifles are the new handcannons, automatic scout rifles are the new auto rifles, handcannons are in an awkwardly varying spot, scout rifles are scout rifles, and auto rifles are the mentally challenged cousin who can't quite keep up.

As a whole. I've tried dam near every auto. They are fine. You get what you use. If anything they need a flinch buff. How does someone stay on scope with tons of lead smacking them in the face?? Nuff said. Zarnieae d for the win. Close. Mid. Long range As far as slow rate of fire. It's overpowering. IF. U have a clip more then 25 or so. They all seem to jump around. By the time it's dialed in. U have half or less a clip left( not talking about the self cheered pros of course)

                      • I was going to vote no on this right away. But i agree. The slow fire rates leave a lot to be desired. The problem with auto rifles is also the range. In most cases im either sniped because the damage fallout doesn't let hurt snipers. Or i get shotgunned out at close range. I think auto rifles should cause the enemy more... Not sure what to call it but screen shake to make it harder to get swift sniper kills or quick shotgun head shots. But thats just my opinion

                      • if they can nerf the stability if the high rate of fire ARs, even if with Counterbalance and/or Braced Frame/Hand-Laid Stock/Injection Mold/Smallbore, to make them less effective on med to long range... I can get killed by that archetype on ridiculous ranges because they can just prefire and spray and get lucky. Med rate of fire ARs are in need of some buff.... probably to damage to compete with high RoF or make them stagger a bit... low rate of fire like Shadow Price or Her Memory could do a little more range boost, not that much but just enough that they could stay away from shotguns' optimal range.

                        • Yes, but only the low rate of fire type. High & Mid types is in a good place. Something like a stability + range buff.

                          • Quick note, consider question 3 "No" to be that you Despise the idea of that happening. I could see why if people think that it would be "Year One" all over again. Me and a lot of other people just want a small base damage buff to slow fire rate auto rifles. Or just a range buff, either way something needs to be done. I just want to use my Year One "Her Right Hand" again. Without the struggle of getting out played in the crucible by top tier weapons like the "Grasp Of Malok", "MIDA Multi- Tool", and "Last Word".
