Love the ninja comment, I have taken the liberty of defending the guilty party by removing their name. That way if someone else ends up in a trials group with them and we do find him to be cheating we will ban all of them. this is because we are shit.

 • A Ninja is not a Bungie employee and they have no power to ban people in Destiny. They are simply volunteer forum moderators Plus, the name of the cheater has already been submitted via either an in-game report or an Official Report Form, if one was filled out. There is no need to put their names here.

 • Well actually if you go into trials with a cheater that you found in an lfg and he cheats and you win you can get banned to. So if they are named you then have a choice. If you join realise he/she is cheating you can leave obviously and Bungie will refund you your passage coins and time and oh wait, no they don't. Yes Ninjas are brown nosers.

 • If you joined a Trials match via LFG and you play with a cheating player, you're guilty by association because you won and gained a tangible benefit through someone else cheating. That's explained on a Help article. About you leaving and losing Passage Coins, Bungie cannot restore items on characters for any reason. That's also explained on a Help article. And as for Ninjas brown-nosing, I fail to see how that was a relevant comment.

 • Well all that post did was confirm the need to name cheats.

 • How so?

 •
How so?
Because people can inadvertently team up with a cheat through Lfg and get banned for join enterprise, they didn't request, condone or encourage cheating.

 • Well, Bungie knows nothing about you. All they get is some film from the report tool. They don't know if you condone cheating, but if they see you in a Fireteam with a cheater, they assume you do and that you're benefiting from cheating on purpose. They can't really do anything else. It's not a perfect system (especially with people who abuse it and report everyone who beats them), but it's one that works pretty well despite its flaws.

 • Well people getting banned due Bungie's ignorance is terrible. If cheaters were named they could be avoided. People get named when arrested before they even get charged of anything. The harassment theory is hardly a problem compared to innocent people being banned.

 • Bungie already knows who the cheater is. They see it in the game film and on the report form. You'd report the guy that was cheating, not just some random guy in the party, right? The point is that if you are in a Fireteam with a cheater and you win, you are not innocent. You've gained an unfair advantage by cheating. To quote from the Help article:
...deriving gameplay benefit from another player's behavior [cheating] is a breach of the License Agreement that governs Destiny, and therefore potentially subject to access restrictions.
I'm not sure if you are being deliberately obtuse or not. The point is until you actually get into the game and start playing how do you know if someone you hooked up with on LFG is a cheater unless their names are put out there somewhere so you know to avoid them? Its no bloody use only Bungie knowing them is it?
...deriving gameplay benefit from another player's behavior [cheating] is a breach of the License Agreement that governs Destiny, and therefore potentially subject to access restrictions.
All this does is confirm the need to have a list of names of who cheats are. I go to LFG, I post LFG trials run. I get invited to a party, we go to trials, we play, one of my team cheats, I get banned. How could I avoid that? Either ask if they cheat (they cheat, they are dishonest so not really putting much faith in that system to be honest) of never use LFG which would be fine if Bungie actually provided a matchmaking system. If someone gets arrested and questioned for a crime it is so anyone with any evidence may come forward to aid the investigation, that is done regardless of harassment worries because there is no greater crime than innocent people being found guilty. You can argue about one being the breaking of the law rather than the rules of a game however, to the innocent person the cost is the same, a loss of liberty to do as one wants.

 • As I said before, it's not a perfect system. Innocent people are going to get banned in any game. It's very rare that this happens, though, because seriously, how many people are you going to hook up with through LFG who just happen to be cheating? Bungie knows nothing about the player a cheater may be playing with, so they have to assume that that player is completely aware of that fact. I'd rather have a couple of people get a temporary ban than have cheaters running loose because someone at Bungie thought, "hey, this guy is playing with a cheater and is winning because of it, but he might not know he's cheating, so I'll let it slide." I do see your point, there should be a clearer way to determine who is really at fault. Unfortunately, there really isn't. All Bungie gets is a game tape and a report form to go off of. They have to operate under the assumption that all parties that may be guilty are guilty. Otherwise, a lot of cheaters would get away with it. I don't make the ban policy. I agree with it for the most part, but if you don't like it, that's tough. It's the system we have, and we have to deal with it. That's how it goes.
