I wasn't around during Myth or Suros' reigns, but I did drop in right as the HoW update/expansion rolled in so I can relate to where you are coming from.
With the newer changes to exotics it is quite saddening really. All I try to worry about is farming Ultras on Patrol just so I can use higher leveled exotics to level up my legendary weapons and gear.
To be frank, the only exotic weapons I actually bother using in PvP are Simulant(for heavy), Spindle and Chaperone(secondary), and some novelties like Ace of Spades or The First Curse when I feel like just joking around in a match.
Seven out of every ten matches I'll just rely on my max stab 47, auto-fire 43, Hatchet or Reflection Sum and either my Glass Progeny or LDR simply because they handle way better when I actually try to fight.
I can't remember the last time I picked up my TLW and Bad Juju in either PvE or PvP.
The first exotic I "earned" was back in TDB when I was still a newb. A friend invited me to join him in Rumble and since I had little experience (and few legendaries) at the time I was utterly thrashed. End of game rewards show up and while zero rewards showed up for the other players, NLB dropped for me. It was then that I had my "SmoggyPluto" moment and I truly felt like a snowflake.
Shame I didn't use it as often in the Crucible. I could've been a part of that NLB trend.
