I'm not a particularly skilled player when it comes to Crucible. Do you know how I can get better? By playing against others that are as good as, or better than, I am. Pub-stomping doesn't improve anyone's skill set. Being challenged, does.
And quit using lag as an excuse to complain about SBMM. Use lag as a reason to demand dedicated servers.
-
Agreed with you 100% until "dedicated servers..... *facepalms) Still agree with true moral of your story tho
-
You literally just said yourself that you improve by playing against others of greater skill. This would be much easier in connection based matchmaking.
-
The amount of "pub stomping" in the current system is not greater than or less than what it was when CBMM was in full effect. SBMM does not belong in a casual gaming experience like Destiny.
-
ah the use of pub-stomping is such a cliche. I can see your frail attempt to take away lag as a reason but people see right through this scam.
-
Argument against. Not all people play this game competitively, in fact the majority of players dont.
-
I improved by getting stomped, going negative by 5 was good for me and I slowly improved so you can improve easily just takes time.
-
I have good internet - usually between 40-60 mbps. However, it seems as if I'm playing the game at a second or two behind what's really happening. I.E. I see a gunslinger pop his super, I scope my sniper on his face during his animation - but before I can shoot him and before his animation finishes I die from his golden gun. That kind of thing happens to me a lot. Lag is the number one reason against SBMM. The number one reason for Bungie to get dedicated servers is because their baby SBMM won't work without it. And the number one reason a lot of players in Destiny are good is because of lag, because they're playing a different game than most and because real time for them is different than most. Unfortunately for me, having good internet is a detriment. The connection of a game is set to the worst connection in pvp, not the best.
-
Haven't you realized by now that all this drama is not about sbmm or lag or anything. It's just that people want something (anything) to put the blame on for getting outplayed. They'll blame the guns/abilities being OP, they'll blame the lag, they'll blame matchmaking, etc. Even when we have dedicated servers and minimal lag then also people will find something to blame because they can't just accept that they got outplayed.
-
People cry for ranked playlists, but complain sbmm is hard smh.
-
Quick question. Is there SBMM in IB/Trials?
-
this whole protect that casual os bull shit. I come from a time in gaming where if u sucked at a shooter u got spawn traped and ur shit pushed in until u got better at the game. now we have to protect bad players by only matching them with other bad player how will anyone ever improve. u get better by playing better players. by seeing how the play what weapons they use how the move around the map
-
I don't understand how dedicated servers are going to make someones bad internet (or lag switch) suddenly better. Don't get me wrong I'm not against the idea, just don't see how it would help.
-
SBMM is fine I'm actually in favour of it....when they scrap pier to pier system, buy dedicated servers for europe, usa etc and put in the tools & systems to make it work properly. Till then bin it & 100% connection based.

Edited by II_RICHIE_II: 5/31/2016 7:14:31 PMI quit destiny because of SBMM. It's no longer fun being matched up with the best all the time. I'm in the top 1% and I got there by having fun and playing with friends who have half of my avg kd. Can't do that anymore as I get to play against the best, in full fireteams, playing extreme teamwork and tactics like teamshooting etc. Not to mention a lot of these pro players using advantageous controllers, scuf, venom x, some even using mouse and keyboard... It's no fun anymore. To even have a chance I can't go in solo in skirmish and enjoy myself. I need to bring a sweaty team of pros to win matches now. It's not even possible to try new weapons and listen to music and being relaxed. Can't depend on my own skill anymore. It's all about the collective team's skill and strategy. People who aren't in the top percentage might not experience this. On the contrary, they might actually have it more easier as they are not playing us top players anymore to some extent. SBMM plus the fact that this game lags even more now than it ever did before, and before was really bad, is enough reason for me to put destiny on the shelf and enjoy other games for the time being. I'll come back when Bungie adds ranked and unranked playlists, when they fix the damage referee to actually kick yellow and redbars instead of letting them dominate (is it hard to check a players connection before you decide to let them play against me?), when Bungie decides to make the pvp experience a fun experience. Not to mention firebolts and broken blink strike... Being thrown in matches that are over, about to be over (I literally got thrown into a game where the enemy team had heavy, 5 seconds left of the game and it got mercied as soon as I landed.. Geezus..). Or playing solo in the crucible and getting matchmade with full fireteams of sweaty ass players. As of now Bungie is a joke of a company to me. Fix your shit, Bungie. Until then, adios.

Sometimes people play for fun or at least want to. I can no longer play with my son. He gets killed. And, playing people of same skill, is never the beat way to increase skill. In all things in life, we get better/stronger when facing better/stronger competition. All sbmm is, is false hope and a pat on the back to lower end players, to make them think they are getting better.
-
Anyone who defends sbmm is just plain stupid.
-
I don't play PVP.
-
Top 1% player here and all I can say is being in this bracket is laggy and you don't understand what that's like.
-
I don't disagree that sbmm is a good way to improve your skill but I would still rather have it as an option rather than the only way to play. I think one way that could work would be to have both an unranked and ranked playlist giving you the option to play against anyone or against players that are as skilled as you are. Just one idea I guess.
-
If they can set up dedicated servers then I am fine with SBMM. If they can't, then I would rather have SBMM done away with. I. CANNOT. STAND. THOSE. DIRTY. REDBAR. PEASANTS.
-
Correct. Trials is CBMM that BungieVision gave the "pros" for stomping purposes, AND they gave it the best rewards in the game. Make it 7 days a week and more game modes. Don't punish the bottom 80% because the pros want to be casuals sometimes.
-
When connections are bad, skill does not even come into play. As such, "SBMM" is inherently flawed in Destiny.

Dedicated servers are not coming to the game, so that argument is never going to fly. It would have needed to be implemented at the start of the game, so the only hope for dedicated servers is for Destiny 2. As for SBMM, most logical people don't have an issue playing people of similar or better skill. The issue is when the game searches the ENTIRE WORLD for your opponents. Great, the game found us an equally skilled team...............in Kuala Lumpur! We're so equally skilled, that neither of us are landing bullets because they're flying right through us. Matchmaking needs to have a reasonable balance of connection & skill, with more weight paid to connection. At least if the connections are even, now it's a matter of skill. Because when connections are bad, then skill won't matter at all.

You couldn't be more wrong, respectfully. Getting pub stomped is exactly how you will get better. It will teach you how to use cover, watch for corners and sniping lanes, have greater map awareness and so on...
