This quick thread about things you may not know about some of your favorite crucible maps.
Have a read.
Timekeeper:
Time keeper is actually a giant clock with missing parts. If this clock ever starts working
We're outta luck and outta time.
Why?
This clock only starts ticking in the presence of the darkness itself.
So keep an eye out for if something starts moving, and be concerned......
Anomaly:
You all know that giant cube in the center of the map, well that houses the anomaly. "What's the anomly" you ask? It's an intense electromagnetic field that (with prolonged exposure to the area) has given some guardians insomnia, bad enough to the point where they had to be hospitalized.
(This may have some serrious lore implications)
Pantheon:
Pantheon is a vex temple that buzzes anomalous messages, possibly to powerful vex minds. This place might even be housing a vex mind so keep an eye out just in case a vex ultra pops up out of nowhere.
Crossroads:
This is an ecosystem made by the vex, likely to experiment with some sort of wildlife. It also says it could have been used to defend themselves from "a long vanished enemy". this may have ties to the honor of the cormorant which has the description: "One of the remaining sashes of the Cormorant, torn in battle by a forgotten foe"
This leads a whole web of BS of lore that's for another day.
Vertigo:
Vertigo is a curious site as there was a cabal presence.
WAS.
When the Redjacks scouted out this new arena they found that the cabal ships were fully stocked. But the cabal seemed to have vanished. I personally think that cabal team may have managed to find their way into a vex portal and got lost in the vex network, but that's heavy speculation.
Bastion:
Bastion is the largest vex site ( aside from the black garden) but it's all covered in sand, leaving that first archway as a scary gate into a buried labyrinth. The cabal threw a full on assault at this facility and somehow got completely wiped out. The Redjacks don't know what the vex deployed in defence but it must have been powerful. It appears in-active for now. But as the sands get pushed away, who knows what will be hiding below.
The cauldron:
This is a hive ritual site where beings would be judged by the darkness in front of a monarch. This place likely used to be used by crota and he once judged humans, cabal, and fallen in this chamber, as there is a skiff, harvester, and a human ship on one side of the map and dead humans, cabal, and fallen on the other side.
Widow's court:
This place is Shaxx's favorite map because of nostalgia....
The only thing I could think is that he once fought in a great battle here, or he remembers it from somewhere in his past.
burning shrine:
The burning shrine's purpose is ultimately unknown. We do know however that it held the solar forge that was used to obtain the sunbreaker subclass. Osiris knows what this place is and wanted something from it, so he sent his sunbreakers after it. A place sought after by Osiris is a place we should keep under wraps, which is why shaxx's keeps a constant stream of matches going to it.
Rusted lands:
This was a human settlement that couldn't reach the city. A team of guardians came to escort the people to the city but when night fell on them, they discovered a hive seeder. This must have been one of the first few because the hive on earth was unheard of at this point in time. After a nasty battle, only a single hunter was left, and she escorted the people in the settlement back to the city.
Shores of time:
This seems to be a small mining site of the vex. They can't use it anymore because the sulfur is now too unstable to be of use to the vex. this place also houses one of the Ishtar collective's research stations. I imagine they'd be really bummed out to find out that this was merely a mining site.
Asylum:
Before the collapse, this was just another simple street block. Now it's a reminder of what we lost, and a reminder of what we have to fight for.
Twilight gap:
Oh the infamous twilight gap. This was the place where the combined forces of the fallen houses of winter, devils, and kings managed to overrun the cities defenses. Many guardians fell here to hold the line and from the armor of those fallen guardians the mighty Gjallarhorn was created. Now the crucible uses this place as a rite of passage for new guardians and to teach them about on of the cities greatest battles. During this battle the awoken were under going the reef wars as they had intercepted the fallen broadcasts and decided that the fallen house of wolves would know the name of Mara Sov as they were trespassing in the her territory. (In all honesty I think she just wanted to help us in some way) It is also possible that Shaxx himself may have been in this fight. (totally not Deej confirmed this to be true. Saladin was also at the battle of twilight gap)
Memento:
This is an interesting map because of the battle going on in the background. This used to be a thriving riverside city center. This place is also in a dead zone, making it slightly harder to maintain. It's likely that the battle in the background may actually be some of Shaxx's Redjacks keeping to fallen out of the crucible arena. when asked about if it's wise to have a crucible arena so close to a fallen ketch in the dead zone shaxx reponded with-
“Nothing in this world stays dead for long anymore. We need to be ready.”
Basically meaning if the fallen storm this area, the guardians should be on their feet and ready for anything, so they should be ready for the fallen.
First light:
This was an "Exobotany laboratory complex". (Study of plants in space) This has a great view of earth, it also had front row seats to the end of the world. Now a yellow "miasma" (noun. a highly unpleasant or unhealthy smell or vapor)(had to look it up) is spewing out of the moon's surface from some things that the hive has been doing for a while. The hive also don't seem to care if the moon stays in one piece.
Firebase Delphi:
So this is an odd place as it is an abandoned and half made cabal base. The cabal aren't known for doing things half way then not finishing.
We're talking about a culture that will grind a mountain to dust rather than build around it.
One theory is that this base was made to simply be inspected and satisfy a commander's lack of progress on another front. So, this base could have basically been a "oh yeah, we're getting so much done, inspector. look, we're even building another base right now."
Bannerfall:
This is the site if the last stand of the concordant and Lysander. There was a battle between new monarchy and the concordant in which new monarchy won. The concordant was rising in opposition to the consensus (basically the city's governing body) this site was then taken by shaxx for use in the crucible.
Blind watch:
This site is on top an old Clovis bray science station. This place was once a small outpost but then the crucible reclaimed it after the cabal moved closed to the broken exclusion zone. This place is now used to help guardians adjust to mars and remains combat ready in case the cabal ever come back for it.
Skyshock:
This is interesting. This place is an interplanetary defense array used by Rasputin. The hive came in and tore the place up. It is unclear if it was the hive got what they were after here or if Rasputin destroyed it before they could get it.
Thieves' den:
This is a site on Venus that was controlled, presumably by the house of devils. (maybe even a faction of devils called the thieves, kinda like the silent fang in the house of wolves.) This site was recently active but appears to have been abandoned. Now it's our little crucible arena.
The Dungeons
This one I really like. This hive ship had living things inside of it. A scary combo of predator genetics, arcane bio-energetics and a "darkness incarnate". Shaxx and the Redjack went on ahead and took this ship over for crucible use. Something else interesting about this map is the fact that there is a deathsinger encased in the crystal in the center of the map. That big random crystal in the middle has a deathsinger inside of it. I'd maybe suggest against throwing grenades and such in the crystal, just in case it maybe cracks open.
The Drifter:
This was a house of winter ship that got attacked by the hive in the reef. (likely a small clash between hive and fallen when they came for the traveler during the collapse.) The servitor in the middle can't repair itself but it is still active. now all it can do is watch. Shaxx likes this place because of the low gravity and finally got it when we talked with the reef.
Frontier:
This was a precursor to the battle of twilight gap. It was decommissioned in the face of increasing fallen attacks. After all that Shaxx threw this place back together and figure it would be perfect for training with "Rift-based assualt".
Cathedral of dusk:
As soon as we got on the dreadnought, Shaxx's Redjacks went straight in to secure an area. This area that they found was named by the warlocks and appears to be a burial site for something unknown to us. It could have been a former leader, comrade, lover, ETC.
So did you guys learn something new?
Thank you for reading.

Edited by AtomicBaconBits: 5/10/2016 1:41:56 AMActually, Thieve's Den is inside the Volcano you can see from the Ishtar Region (Patrol) on Venus. Either that or one near it.
