So, I've been reading through some of the hundreds of "prove to me that God is real" threads, and based off the majority of Christian comments, I've come to a conclusion: Pretty much the only reason people believe in God is "faith".
I'd just like to remind everyone that faith is the deliberate suppression of critical thinking skills.
What kind of God would give humans such intricate brains, then tell us not to use our critical thinking and reasoning skills, things that separate us from most other animals?
We shouldn't have to ignore science, or go against our intuitions just to be able to believe in God, and subsequently go to heaven.
Purse, out.

Don't have to prove something is real when it already is real

Bump.

Am I the only one who wouldn't want to live forever? I mean that's a lot of work I'm going to assume heaven is 24/7 church as well

I believe in God not only by faith, but by the sheer complexity of the world. We're just too lucky to exist by evolution and by chance. Humans are the perfect organism fit to survive in nearly any situation. Our planet is in the perfect spot for just enough heat from the sun to keep is going. Everything about us is just the perfect conditions for us to grow. Even over the course of millions of years, this amount of luck would be crazy. There's also the problem of irreducible complexity. You take away one thing and the whole thing goes to crap. From a technical standpoint, evolution is next to impossible. The sheer notion that even through generations of selective breeding that we could somehow change kingdoms is preposterous. Most of the time, mammal hybrids can't breed in the first place.

Hello, I am currently 15 years old and I want to become a walrus. I know there’s a million people out there just like me, but I promise you I’m different. On December 14th, I’m moving to Antartica; home of the greatest walruses. I’ve already cut off my arms, and now slide on my stomach everywhere I go as training. I may not be a walrus yet, but I promise you if you give me a chance and the support I need, I will become the greatest walrus ever. If you have any questions or maybe advice, just inbox me. Thank you all so much ~~

Is it not your faith that says there is no such thing as faith

Prove to me that you exist

I don't see why you have to choose one or the other. I am freely able to believe in and discuss the Big Bang theory, evolution, etc without having any crisis of faith. I understand that they can't both be true but I think it's valuable to be exposed to a diversity of opinions. It's also a good skill to not become offended when you are exposed to something you disagree with.

Im fairly certain you're attacking religion to compensate for your abnormally small penis

We all know that if Recon Number 54 was a Ninja still he'd have removed this thread instead of actually attempting to debate with an argument. Funny how that works.
I'd just like to remind everyone that faith is the deliberate suppression of critical thinking skills.
Do you have the same opinion regarding the human feelings of hope, love, and trust?

Wut u bashing other peoples religion?
-
People just believe in religion because they aren't ready to accept what happens to them after death, so they put themselves at ease with silly stories. Which actually makes sense because not existing for eternity sounds pretty horrifying.

So what happens when a Christian Uses knowledge and critical thinking skills to support their faith? A.K.A me. A.K.A Sir Robert Boyle the Grandfather of Chemistry.
You are right though. Many Christians won't get much smarter since they just say "God did it." Sure maybe he did it. But HOW did he do it?
Edited by LauKensai: 3/3/2016 9:30:01 AMMy definitive moment that crushed the last possibility for God in my mind happened in Psychology 101 in college. Once I realized what endorphins, specifically dopamine, were god no longer had any room to exist. To have faith is fine. But you don't get to put your faith, based on how you feel about it, on the same shelf as my logic, and reason.

I thought this post was going to be about a stripper.... I'm really disappointed in you.

Religion is an outlet for people that are scared of death and the future, and they want quick answers, to help themselves stay sane (which is ironic), and answer questions modern science(s) cannot. But modern science is slowly answering the questions we didn't have answers to thousands of years ago. And the people who can't let go of their religion use "Faith" to justify that they are right vs modern science, that uses facts, formulas, equations, and observations to prove and look into things.

To hell with faith, and praise be to Project 37
