Let's Have a Serious Chat About the Current State of Loot Drops in Destiny

Raids and ToO should always drop top level gear

#1 and scopes should be separate attachments

#1 & #2 and middle tree perks should be separate

Nope, working as intended

Bungie doesn't care and will make loot worse

I'm focusing primarily on weapons here as I love weapons. First off, I feel like the weapon drops in Destiny have never been quite right - I don't think things like scopes and sites should be part of the RNG involved in the drop. I feel that they should be a separate attachment which we can collect and apply based on our choice as a gamer to better suite our playstyle. Secondly I'd like to state that the loot drops in endgame activities became much worse in TTK despite good progress made in HoW. The current drops have way too many levels of RNG associated with them: 1. RNG if you get a drop at all 2. RNG what base perks you get 3. RNG what scopes/sites you get 4. RNG what middle tree perks you get (extended mag, smallbore, etc.) 5. RNG what attack level it has Two or even three of these are arguably acceptable, but all five together is ridiculous! Here is what I propose: 1. Have end game activities always drop top level gear (top attack or top defense - currently 320). This worked great in every update prior to TTK. Admit this was a mistake and revert back to that functionality. 2. Separate out the scopes/sites branch on the weapon customization tree as separate weapon attachments. So we can get a scope drop and temporarily attach it to any of our weapons in the same class (keeping each type of weapon separate so you couldn't attach a sniper scope to a shotgun or scout rifle). 3. Separate out the middle tree perks branch on the weapon customization tree as separate weapon attachments. So we can get an extended magazine weapon attachment drop or a smallbore magazine drop and temporarily attach it to any of our weapons in the same class (keeping each type of weapon separate so you couldn't attach a sniper magazine to a shotgun or scout rifle). 4. Keep infusion working the way it is (with end game drops landing at top level losing a percentage of attack/defense on infusion would be more acceptable). 5. Stop treating PvE and PvP the same when it comes to nerfing and "balancing" weapons. None of these horribly devastating nerfs needed to be applied for PvE content. When you nerf a weapon for PvP you make it completely obsolete in PvE content. This makes no sense. Just have each weapon have a separate set of stats for PvP and PvE and only nerf their PvP stats. 6. Allow infusion on all year 1 legendary weapons. Admit that leaving them behind and effectively making all of the year 1 content irrelevant (when it's arguably the best content in the game) was a mistake and just allow infusion on all year 1 legendary weapons. I got the idea for #2 & #3 from playing The Division beta. It blew my mind that you could just get a magazine or scope as a drop and apply it to any of your weapons (and change your mind and apply it to any other weapon without losing any money, materials, or xp). This is how weapon customization and upgrading should be. We as players should have the choice to go with extended mag or smallbore without being at the mercy of a multitude of RNG levels all stacked against us. We should also have the choice to apply any scope that we prefer to our weapons without again being at the mercy of a multitude of RNG levels all stacked against us. Leave a comment. I'd love to hear what other Destiny players think of these proposed changes.

 • You've got a point. Though I have an idea involving rerolling that might fix the problem that you might want to check out. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/194724216/0/0
